Crafty Supplies - Pad Patter 8/4/15

I'm delving into the world of painting and just got a stabilo pencil. It is a really cool tool. It will write over anything even damp paint.

I really want Copic markers, but they are so expensive. There's a less expensive brand called Spectrum Noir that I've watched someone on YouTube use that they say is really similar to Copic. I don't really want them for color, but for shading, so I'm looking at a set of grays for that.

For washi tape, I love Freckled Fawn! http://freckledfawn.com/collections/washi-tape-1 I mean cute, right?

And yes, I do all my layouts digitally, but I have a junque journal that I made myself from a composition notebook as well as Smash Books for the last three years.

Laura I am actually think I'm going to make a post bound album cover for this Inner Excavation book I'm working through. Then I can do both digital and hands on. But I'm making myself miserable about what size artist tablet. I'm in "Overthinking" Mode.

Spectrum Noir are a great cheap alternative to copics, and a very good way to start your marker addiction! I would also recommend getting brush nibs for your SN markers, which come separately.

I also have Copic Ciaos, which I buy individually and am slowly building a collection! I find the nibs on the copics are finer and at the same time more flexible, which is why I prefer them to SN markers. Also, for a colourist the shades available in copics are irresistible!! You can usually find a good price on the internet, but they are still dearer than SN markers.

If you are interested in shading only, you might like chameleons pens, they are really fun! I forgot to mention I have a full set of those, too :blush

I think i would be surprised if i looked in boxes, under everything, stacked behind the buffet, stacked in kar closet. My pencils and crayons, nicely on shelf, (this stuff good), the oddities, well, all the folded klenex boxes, who know when want us its pattern, the diferent scraps of paper from envelopes letterheads etc (might wanna line some up)...... should i go on

I have been all digi for almost a decade... but I still love to shop for crafty supplies. I love paint, markers and notebooks. But I buy them and get too scared to play with them. So silly. When I had my foot surgery in February and was bored laying around I started tangling and then I wanted to color all my tangles, so I bought some Spectrum Noir markers. I just LOVE how bright and bold the colors are! I also have that set of Pigma markers and love them SO much!

Lately all my crafty purchases are yarn related. I taught myself how to knit two winters ago, so I HAD to have a set of interchangeable knitting needles and there's always yarn. Lots of yarn piles at my house!

I used to have oodles of craft supplies. OOdles! I filled up a room... but once I went digital, I dabbled, and then never went back! Though... I still have a pen/marker fetish! Oh... and a washi tape one too!

I love freckled fawn. i just started subbing to their monthly embellishment kits and they are so fantastic. I hear you on the Copics. They are definitely expensive. My Michaels has them and I can use my 40% coupon on them and that's the only way I would buy them.

I've been a Freckled Fawn subscriber from day 1 and I love my monthly bag of goodies. They do have the BEST washi!

My kind of lady! Yep "scared to play with them" and yarn related purposes!

I will happily report that I went to Michael's today and bought a 12 pack of dual tip art markers (a cheapo brand, nothing too serious) & promptly came home and played with them.... drew and colored two pages in my art journal, before actually journaling, in my journal. Haha. <3

I have lots of copic markers and water color pencils all that I love, I just have them all on the back burner again... oh I need more focus.

This thread is pure EVIL*ok Heaven...* I am such a pen/washi/paper/art & office supply addict, it's not even funny! Kate W, you must tell us everything about Chameleons!! Are they as awesome as they sound? Can you really make 47 billion colors out of the 22 pens? ok maybe that was a *slight* exaggeration...but you know what I mean...
Nemla - I have always thought that Double Sided tape was the best invention ever! And I love Terrifically Tacky Tape (there are other brands), but it is like Double Sided Tape that ate 40 bowls of Wheaties for breakfast! That stuff is like superglue tape!!
Recently I have been buying Pitt Artist Brush Markers. I <3 them. I even did a 'painting' on canvas with them - because they are permanent and don't smear. But I wrecked a couple of brush tips in the process, so I don't advise that.

*Oh! I forgot to mention --I am SO excited!! My local craft supply store is having an adult coloring book coloring contest (not that kids cant color in them, you just have to be 16 for the contests)! you know those really involved patterns and pictures they have now? You can win one of 3 gift certificates and the top 10 get the adult coloring book of your choice! YAY!!

That sounds like an awesome contest!

I feel kinda silly being so excited about a coloring contest, but I haven't been this excited over a contest since I entered CK Hall of fame ( or whatever it was called - CD Muckosky would know). That was 10 years ago! And I didn't get it. But I did win a coloring contest in 5th grade! It was one from the grocery store. I won $5! Hey, when I was 10 $5 was a big deal. I bought one of my favorite toys with it - The Mighty Men & Monster Maker - basically Fashion Plates for boys. I was a weird kid.

At Michael's yesterday, she told me they were planning art journal classes in September. I almost jumped I was so excited. ... :giggle

Chameleon pens are fun, think of them as an alcohol pen plus blender. I personally think they are great for metallic or anything shiny, but they aren't a substitute for a full range of colours. They are not particularly cheap, so I would research a bit before investing to see if they suit you...here's the promo video, you can see that you get shading, but it doesn't look natural on the fruit or flowers because there's only one hue.

Thanks so much for this, Kate. I will definitely check this out. :)
