Most "hated" elements in Digi Kits ?

favorite ... color ... vacation ... mom

I adore word art. I use it all the time. How hard can it be to include favourite ... colour ... holiday ... mum?

If word art is a feature of the kit and has only the american spellings I will not buy it (or it has to have a really good bunch of other stuff to take my mind off of the irritation).

I totally agree with you here. In Australia there is no such thing as a Road Trip and we usually have holidays and not vacations. Mothers day kits with Mom instead of Mum, I do not buy. Another one is traveller and travelling. To put traveling on a page would be a spelling mistake.

The only element that I think I really don't care for are the bingo cards. I just don't get it. But I am sure there are those that really like them.

Does it matter what size the "folder" preview is for it to show in the icon view? I'm curious because I've never used the preview as the icon view.

I don't think so? I've gotten some as big as 3600x3600 and it still works. I'm guessing in some old version of Windows, it has to be 200x200 because a lot of designers include those, but I delete them and rename the bigger one as folder, because 200 pixels is almost worthless.

Don't get me going on folders in folders, dupl tou, etc. I have just started unzipping not including them, wish had done from start.

I finally finished renaming some punctuation in file names and get file name smaller for designers who don't have a 3 character designer abbreviation last night. (from older things here during nsid)

I am SO grateful for Batch Rename within Bridge because a lot of designers have strange ideas about how to name alpha files. For my script to work, the letter has to be the last part of the filename, so "upperA" works but not "Aupper" and not "aa" and not "a1" and not "ablue" etc.

it is interesting to see all the different opinions , and I have learned few things too, previews and folders , good stuff.

Hi Kate. Sorry I tried to post earlier but couldn't. I never buy templates or alpha sheets either as I mostly use Craft Artist too. But at least designers here gives you png files. However a good tip as regards the alpha sheets is to take the sheet on your page select it and go to. Cut out studio. That will show if you have transparency or not. If not select round the letters. It is easy it will do them quick not too much fiddeling. Most of them already have some sort of outline. Click ok and you have a transparent background. Now take the scissor tool and make a cut line round one of the letters. No need to be careful it is enough to make like a circle around ir. Double click away from the sheet with the letters and when you use the move tool now to click on any of the letters you will see that they are all separate. Hope it helps. If not pm me.

Hi x just seen your PM. I thought I had replied this morning, but I must've got side-tracked :) lol

I use this method all the time when using embellishments, like the clusters of beads, I hadn't even thought to do it with the alpha sheets! Now I know!! Thank you XX It's nice to have another craft artist user here to get tips from :)

Yes! Yes! Yes!
Some of us use 'U' in our words

For me... it's not that I don't dislike them... I may not use certain elements. Bulky frames for me - mostly because I try to mimic my paper scrapping days and bulky wasn't *usually* a part of my pages. That said, sometimes, it was - I had pebbles on one layout, and that was way bulky, lol!

I also prefer to do my shadowing, and don't use any pre-shadowed items. Seeing something come stacked anmd shadowed but not available with all the pieces separated in the kit - I just won't use it. If if comes separately, or in .pds form , then I can shadow how I like... especially the angle.

I guess this is not an embellishment but I dislike preshadowed templates. The first thing I do is delete all the shadows.

And the folder into the folder thing. Why isn't the preview just with the templates and not in it's own folder?

I Lurve templates, and I get a bit of extra happiness if they are shadowed :) I especially like it when the shadows have been warped so the papers look curled or bent, as that's something I can't do easily in craft artist.

Out of all the digital sites I have visited, TLP has the best stuff. There are the odd things that I wouldn't use, . But overall TLP has the most stylish designers. The UK site associated with serif and craft artist seems very behind the times in comparison. I am so glad I found this place :)

I am enjoying this thread, it seems that we each have a pet hate, but then someone else loves it! lol :)

I absolutely love flair. My least loved elements is frames. Of any kind. If I do use a frame, it will usually be a big bulky ornate one. :giggle But I usually have a hard time with my photos fitting into frames the right way or something so I rarely use them. Alphas are also something I rarely use... mostly because I'm lazy. LOL. If it is something I can type instead, I'd rather. The folder inside a folder thing bugs me too.

What I'd really love is for there to be a way to make all of the cool alphas into styles so I could just type whatever and then apply the alpha style and it would work like I'd just spent all of the time selecting/positioning each letter. See. I'm totally lazy.

But the designers here are sooooo awesome, there are times I want to use almost every element on one page.

You need Craft Artist, that is what it does lol. You type with Alphas if you want, and it also uses smart frames, so you drag your pic to the frame and it clips and resizes it :) You can go in and adjust it if you want, too.

Thanks for the idea. I spent a lot of time a while ago putting in the folder previews, must get up to date with it as it is very useful.

Ditto except for when they have been put on separate layers so I can do the warp thing with them.

Mine is those little flowers, (or petals) that usually is a bit of what has once been a part of an artificial flower that has been taken apart, (flat little things with a hole in the middle )

I Love using these with a staple. You put the one side of the staple in the hole

I don't even notice when templates are shadowed or not, unless the shadow is on a separate layer, because the first thing I do is run an action that resizes and shadows everything. :giggle Then I replace "text" layers that aren't actually text layers and separate all the elements on layers that have a bunch of elements on them. I never want more than one element on one layer.

I don't like elements on a template at all... lol. What are they used for? To me, one more layer I have to delete. I can't select multiple layers at one time in GIMP, so this process takes forever. Even clipping papers to layers takes me awhile, so if they're there as a guide, delete, if they are there for a paper clipping, i usually don't like their shape anyway.

I too dislike templates with shadows, because I can't edit them to my preference.

As far as template pngs - if you find yourself with a template you love that doesn't include pngs and you need them I'd bet that most designers would update the download with them if you emailed them - I know I would. Sometimes it's hard to guess what the majority of people will need but I think most of us are willing to accommodate when we can if you ask.

Same goes for word art - if you buy a kit and you need to have a certain word spelled differently or word art phrased differently, when possible, I think a lot of designers would be happy to help. I've done it in the past a few times. I try to remember to include"ou" spellings where needed but it's easy to forget when you're in the zone.

Wow that is an offer I am sure some people will be glad to take you up on.
(referring to Allisons post above) That is more than kind.
I have, as I said in the first post the deepest respect for all the designers here, and agree with Kate W you all win hands down compared with style and design on certain other sites. So thanks a lot.
I have really enjoyed the all the posts ,and learning what makes other scrappers "tick " .
Like Dalis I love flairs, really love them ,and will happily buy a kit just with flairs.
Like weaselwatchr I am not too keen on pre shadowed things, but I do love a bit of a curl.
I am amazed (gobsmacked really ) at all the tricks Lorry has up her sleeve ,I wish just 1 hour in her head sometime LOL
I will try the staple thing on my "pet hate flowers " like Sokee said , uhhh I really will .

Regarding word art, I typically have a hard time using it as-is. When I can, I modify it myself to suit my needs (just ask Peppermint :giggle). For this reason, I love it when designers include the fonts they used as part of their TOU so I can match it
