Do you ever realize you don't like a kit?

I'm so new and I'm still finding my style I guess. Sometimes things look SO delicious in the store but then when I try to use them I just flounder. Tonight, I went ahead and put a whole kit in my "done with" pile because it was just too hard. Don't get me wrong, I used it first to challenge myself but that was the end of that.

Does this ever happen to anyone else?

Yes, occasionally I will love something based on the preview, but when I try to scrap with it, nothing seems to work. When that happens, I usually look at the store previews showing sample layouts and pick one I like, and then end up doing a scraplift.

I love love to scraplift!! love it! Funny thing is it usually morphs into something else, and I learn how to use a certain element, or style I never did prior.

occasionnaly i bought a kit that i can't use.... often when i search my style.... more rarely now
but when i don't arrive to made a layout with a kit, i have the same reaction. Im' looking througth gallery to find a layout that could be scrap with this kit and made a scraplift !!! Scraplift help a lot to improve your scrap ;)

sometimes, and I usually find that it is because even though the kit is gorgeous, it really isn't in my usual style. I agree it helps to look at what others have done with the kit. Another trick is to play with scale. For instance maybe the kit has big beautiful flowers that I would probably not normally use. But, shrink them down and make them tiny and they become little sprinkles or scatters on the page.

Sometimes I have this trouble, but often I come back to it later and things just click more. Or I do something out of the box for me... like go minimalist (which is my out of the box, LOL). You do not have to use every part of a kit to enjoy it.

Oh, and I love to mix and match kits/products... so I'll take a kit and add a frame/stitching/other elements/brushes/whatever to it. As your stash grows you will find that you can often find these things hidden in other kits and when they are labeled well, are easy to search for.

Purchasing "staples" that you can see yourself using over again is a great idea.

I do the same when I find myself having trouble to scrap a certain kit: I scraplift or I browse the gallery of the designer to get inspiration.

Emma, I agree with the ladies here. When that happens I do one of two things:

1. If it is a "for me page" no CT requirement then I go and scraplift from the samples. Or at least start there and maybe let it morph into what ever "it's me".
2. If it is a CT requirement page, I pick one of my fellow CT friends and send them my "not so good page". We are all entitled to have a little mojo block, and then they send back ideas and then I add or change and we end up bouncing ideas. If you ever need a person to bounce ideas with, just send me a PM and I will help you. You can ask Trista how much I love "giving ideas". LOL!!!!

Emma, I am 100% serious. :D

Ok, that was not the smiley I wanted to use :giggle, it looks like I am fooling around when I do this, :D right?

I meant to do this:

I just saw this! I really appreciate it, I'm sure I will take you up on that soon. Especially with winter coming but not actually having a winter here, ugh.

I am there with Heather, I usually end up buying something that isn't my cup of tea BECAUSE I have seen the pages in the gallery that I love, and then if I can't think of anything better, I take a look at those pages again to kick start a page of my own.

I have done that.. bought a kit and thought wow this is so pretty then went to use it and said.. GAH, i guess it ireally isn't for me

I think I agree with Olga and Heather. Sometimes the preview looks so enticing, then as I check the individual components I think - what the heck will I do with this. It's all good though. I'll think of something I need in a layout then just wild card a search through my directories and I find lots of interesting stuff I didn't think of because it was a kit I thought wasn't that great. I even end up going back and using multiple pieces because I want a colour match or palette. I kind of enjoy finding these hidden gems that surprise me.

Yep! There have been times when I buy a kit and when I open it up, it just doesn't jive with me! When that happens, I will go back to the store and see if there are CT layouts that might jump start my creativity or ones that I could scrap lift!!!
