How to scrap?

I'm originally from Michigan so I just LOVE all these beautiful autumn inspired layouts but.. my October photos are still of us at the park sweating in tank tops and shorts or swimming. It feels wrong to dress those photos up in orange leaves and sweater weather ephemera. What do I do?

LOL. I know how you feel. We wear flip flops year round. Most of my Pumpkin Patch photos are in shorts/t-shirts :giggle. But it still gets sort of fall-ish by Thanksgiving, and we pretend. That's why I never use Snow kits, unless it's a page about how I wish we had snow.

I say, the colors of Fall are gorgeous and need to be used, even if the photo is a really close up of a face that is otherwise wearing a bathing suit, hehe.

Where do you live?

Come back to Michigan! :)

But seriously... can you mix a summer and fall kit together to get the right mix? Or just use more generic (non themed) kits to scrap and skip the more fall specific elements. I've never had this situation, so I'm not even sure what I would do. I'm sure the people down under and saying the same thing this time every year when it's spring, not fall when all these fall kits come out.

Last year we had one cool day before Halloween and we were able to take my grand daughter to the pumpkin farm and wear sweaters! This year, we had one cooler day and we drove up north to an apple farm and could take a few pics. Yes, otherwise it's the same here. I love using the kits though...my favorite colors, season, foods....everything, so I'll make my layouts about those things. Do you decorate for fall? Bake pumpkin goodies?

I'm watching the weather like crazy here...if we have any cool weather coming up we'll be back at the pumpkin farm. Otherwise, I might need to get them out at 7 am when it's below 60 degrees and then we can bundle up a bit!

Thank you ladies, these are good ideas.

We were going to do the pumpkin patch this weekend but the forecast has changed from rainy and 70s to sunny and 91, pfft. Maybe the next weekend now!

That's a good point about Australia! My goodness, that would be pretty annoying.

I'm in San Antonio now, missing my Michigan dearly. :cry

I've noticed a lot of scrappers are amazing at using themed kits to make neutral looking layouts, I need to work on this skill for sure! That's why I love it here - so much to learn and be inspired by. :beat

Our amazing designers usually put enough "neutral" stuff in their kits and products that they can be used for most anything... I usually look at color before theme. Plus, it makes you feel a bit rebellious to think outside the box!

Oh I feel for you! We are a few hours South of San Antonio and we are still frying to death in the heat and humidity. I'm from Utah so this one season all year round is weird to me too. I've found though that even though the seasons don't change you can't really tell when it comes to themed pages. For example we go to a pumpkin patch every year. And every year my girls are in shorts. However, they are surrounded by pumpkins and fall decorations when I take their pictures. The photos look fine with fallish kits even. You barely notice that they are in shorts instead of all bundled up.

You've gotten some good ideas and advice. The other thing you can do is use b/w photos with the fall theme if your photos are more summery looking.

oh golly! I love to take a themed kit and use it differently, kinda like reaching a different level in a video game!

Oh my gosh, you're a genius. Why didn't I think of this? :beat

OH, HOW I WANT TO LIVE IN A PLACE WITH NO SEASONS!!!!! *sniffle*
I would most likely ditch the sweater-weather ephemera... the golden-reddish colors work find with "hotter" pics, and about the colorful leaves... I would pretend. So what if there are no brownish leaves in the pictures? The colors can still fit nicely, and in retrospect, you can craft your own fake-seasons that way... that's what I would do :).

you could always do a page about how you miss fall. :) use pics from wiki commons!

I have the same problem living in FL. I often use a black and white photo and still embrace the normal fall colors.

Well, I also want to live in a place without seasons change!!! It's turning colder now and the days are allready much shorter...

no seasons here either Emma .... sub-tropical Brisbane has sun, sun and more sun all year long :D .. I just use sepia tones on my photos for Fall kits :giggle

Another FL native... I'm used to it by now, I suppose. It is tough using fall and winter kits when we are still wearing shorts. It's a good year when we can wear a sweater at Christmas.

South Georgia here (born in fl, so this "problem" goes all the way back for me too) - so nope, no seasons but summer, just was summer, and almost summer for us. I use fall kits anyway b/c I loooove the few days of fall we get, but any snowflakey kits are pretty much only for "I wish" pages, since I can count the number of days I have been in or had snow on my two hands.
