After posting the Name Play game for Sara's virtual baby shower I started wondering if you gals knew your name's story or history.

Here is mine. My full name is Alidalis, my mom's name is Alida and my aunt's middle name was Lis. She died at a very young age and my mom and her were very close. So they mixed both names together. Now here is the kicker, when I was about 7-9 years old we were at the doc's office and here my name called and go to the front desk. We learn that this lady "stole" our name and there it was a 2 yr old girl names the same as me. You want to hear the biggest kicker, we never found out if they were just trying to do insurance fraud or if it was just chance but at the doc's office her last name was the same as mine. We had to change doc's because we kept getting all their bills. :whoopdedoo

My dad is Larry. I'm Lorry. Not much to the story. lol

So crazy about the other kid with your name!

That's crazy Dalis!

My full name is Victoria. My dad's name is Victor, so I was named after him. Basically, my mom and my aunt were arguing over what my parents should name me. My dad got fed up with it and told them, if it's a boy we'll name him Victor Jr., if it's a girl, Victoria. And that was the end of it. I'm kind of glad... I was almost Melody Dawn. :giggle It's really a little ironic because I am so much like my father, it's very suiting that I was named after him.

Mine is Kari, my great grandfather was Carey (my name Is same pronounced just spelled different)
.. the spelling of my name means "royalty" which goes good with my maiden last name of King

My Middle name, Rose was my great grandmother on the other sides name..

Oddly, the other side of my family calls me Kar-ree which means princess ..
instead of "care-eee".. which my otherside calls me
I go by both.. but prefer care-eeee

Mine is a simple one ... I was named after Jennifer in the famous movie Love Story which came out at that time... me and a million other baby girls, that is ... (there were had 8 "Jennifers" in my grade alone, during elementary school).

My official name is Rebecca, but my family has always called me Becky. Apparently when my older sister Melissa was born, my dad wanted to call her Missy, but my mom didn't want a nickname, so when I came along, my dad got to call me Becky.

Oddly enough, when I was in high school, I went through a phase when I tried to get all my friends to call me Rebecca because that seemed like a much more sophisticated name, it didn't really work after, you know, 15 years of being Becky--and in the end, I decided that I am more of a Becky than Rebecca! :)

My name is from the greek mythology story Leda and the Swan. My dad studied it in college and fell in love with the name. I like the name because it's different but if you read the story the god Zeus, in the form of a swan, seduces, or rapes, Leda. I was always like what?!?! How do you name your daughter after that?!?! LOL.

My name is Natasha - which means born on Christmas day...but I wasn't :giggle
My mom told me that my dad was in love with Natalie Wood, and wanted to name me Natalie, but my mom wouldn't let him, so they settled on Natasha
My middle name is Guy Ting - it was given to by my my chinese grandfather (he has given all of the middle names in our family - even his great grandkids...it's a tradition). It means "like a willow - bends but never breaks"

Sooooooooooo... what my mom has told me (remembers) from back in the day is that my biological father had a favorite singer named Leander Fox, and I was named after him. My mom changed it to '-dra' to be more feminine-sounding and added another 'e' because her middle name is Lee. [My sister's name also has 'lee' in it.]

However, my research has turned up something a little different. There was some racing/beach bunny movie that came out in 1966 called 'Fireball 500' where one of the main characters is named Sonny Leander Fox. I haven't been able to find a copy to watch, so I don't know if the actor who plays him (Fabian) in the movie sings, but I assume with it being a Frankie & Annette movie, there is some singing & Fabian was an actor and a singer.

Fireball 500 summary

Not sure if my biological father was embarrassed to have liked a 60s beach bunny movie and made it sound more macho by saying the character was a singer or if my mom misremembers, but either way, it warms my heart to be named after a cheesy musical movie like that (as I love those type of movies). With my father having been dead now for years and years, I like carrying something of 'his' with me wherever I go.

The name itself means 'Lion-woman' which is all sorts of crazy-appropriate considering all the crap I've been through and survived over the last decade.

All my mom said is that she thought Stacia was a pretty name, doesn't really know where she heard it. I always liked it because it was pretty unusual. I've only met two other people with the name but spelled slightly differently. I wanted to name my daughter something unusual too so decided on Elysse, unusual spelling but kind of like my grandmother Eloise.

Oh I am liking all the stories behind the names... some of them a bit "out there", really Leda? LOL!!!

My full name is Janice Anne and I was named after my mother's sister who passed away at the age of 23. That was several years before I was born so I never knew her.

Great stories! :D

My real name is Brandon but I was nicknamed after the song 'Brandy' and because my mom loved the name that was on a soap opera back in the day.

I know, Dalis! To say my Dad is a bit "out there" is an understatement. Usually when people ask me, I just say it came from Greek Mythology and leave it at that. LOL. Maybe the naming fairy will name me "Named by her crazy father" ;)

I was named after Brynn Thayer...she was an actress on one of my moms favorite soap operas in the late 70's/early 80's.

OMG. Thank goodness my mom didn't have the same soap opera love as some of your mothers. I would have been named some ridiculous Spanish name. LOL!!!

So here's the question I always wonder, Dalis - how do you pronounce your name? In my head, I say it alley-dallis, but after imagining what your mom and aunt's names sound like, I'm wondering if it's ah-lee-duh-lis with the emphasis on lee and lis..??

I'm Amber Dawn - my mom just always wanted a daughter named that - maybe from the movie Forever Amber? IDK.. random story, though - for a lot of my college years I just went by Dawn, because the theatre company I was in had 3 different Ambers so that's how we differentiated.. I was either, Dawn, Amber Dawn or AD.

Um, well ...

I was supposed to be named Natalie Jean. Right before I was born my dad said, "What do you think of Julie Ann?" My mom liked it and that's what they named me. Turns out, Julie Ann was an ex-girlfriend of my dad's.

And yes, friends, my parents ARE divorced! :lmao

You have so interesting stories, ladies. Mine is not much of a story. My mother just wanted to name me after her grandmother - so I'm Elina :)
