This post is going up a smidge before 6/1, hehe. Because I'm taking 2 of my kids to camp tomorrow and we leave bright and early. I never did the camp thing growing up. It just wasn't in my thought processes and I'm pretty sure my folks couldn't afford it even if it was.

However, for the last few years we've been able to send our older boys to Winshape Camp in Rome, Ga. And it has been awesome for them! This year the oldest decided not to go but my daughter wants to join the fun... so it will be her 1st year and she is over the moon excited.

She won't know a soul there and I'm even nervous about that, but I'm excited for her, too. It's for 2 weeks which could be a lot or a little time depending.

So... did you go to camp? Do you send your kids?

If you did go, what's your best camp story?

Our daughter's first summer old enough for camp was last year - she went to camp with our church for 3 nights, and did the win shape community camp here at home. This summer she will go to north ga for 5 days of all girls camp and again for the 3 nights with our church. She is hoping to get to do the activities that seem to fill with boys first at the all girl camp ;) (archery, kayaks)

My most memorable camp experience was in 5th grade. The school I went to in florida sent the entire 5th grade away to camp for a week in September - camp was a ton of fun, and the school year that followed was one of my favorite because we knew each other (and the teachers knew us) so well!

I grew up camping with my family. Our annual road trip went through Jasper National Park, then on to the Okanagan Valley in BC, then to Vancouver and finally to Vancouver Island. My Dad took 4 weeks off so we could do this every year.

Since I'm a working mom, and for some reason camping vehicles are outrageously expensive here in Canada, we end up sending the kids to camp instead, it is much cheaper. We have a favourite camp affiliated with our church and both kids will go for 2 weeks this summer. Plus I've got them in wilderness adventure day camp, sports day camps, and parkour + gymnastics over the summer...have to keep them busy since I'm back to work this summer. They are really looking forward to all the different activities.

Then my husband is taking his Wood Badge II training (for scout leader), so he signed us up for a week long camp (in cabins) at the scouting facility while he is taking classes. I'm really looking forward to it.

I never did the camp thing as a kid, but I always wanted to be a camp counselor... never did that either, though. We've looked into sending our oldest to summer camp, but haven't followed through with it yet.

We never did stuff like that growing up either I think with 4 kids that wasn't in my parents budget but I agree when mine go away with the school I'm really nervous and missing them where there probably not giving me. A second thought lol

Hope the kids have a great time

I went to camp as a kid, mostly horseback riding camp. Once, I was given an epileptic horse (!!!) and, yes, it had a seizure while I was riding, which is pretty much an unforgettable camp experience.

My oldest has gone to various camps- cheer, tennis, etc. Later in the summer, she's going to a journalism camp.
My youngest hasn't gone away to camp yet. What can I say...she's only 7 and she's my baby! LOL

I haven't sent mine away to camp. We've done day camps though. I was thinking, as I was trying to fall asleep at 4am, I should look for an art camp for my daughter. She loves her some art!

My Campers... They will be in separate camps but took a photo together for their photo obsessive mom. (Their photo obsessive mom who could not find her 60D's SD card and therefore only had her iPhone today. Sigh)

Fun picture! And the best camera is the one you have on you... ;)

I never went to camp as a little kid, but did band camp during the high school summers and loved it. And NO it was not like on American Pie. LOL!

My oldest is going this summer for his first full week at camp and is so excited! His younger brother is NOT happy that he can't go for the full week yet.

They look super happy!

We never did camps and Bianca hasn't gone to one yet. I think she is too little.

I grew up camping, one of my most favorite things to do, although it's been a really loooooooooong time since I've been. One of my favorite camping trips was spent at Indian Flats in California (I grew up in southern CA). There were approximately 40 of us who went, about 30 teenagers, we were all about 14 or 15, a few slightly older, and all really close friends, and 10, give or take, adults (mainly our parents and/or their friends). We had such a BLAST! The second night in the adults had all of us "kids" throughly convinced that our campsite was surrounded by a pack of wolves ... talk about being scared you know what less.

I also spent about five years as a camp counselor for our church's junior youth group here in Indiana where I now live. We ALWAYS had such a wonderful time and truly, I don't know who looked forward to it more year after year, the kids or us adults.

My daughter did YMCA camp for two summers and really enjoyed it. We did well by having a friend there her first summer. My son being the cub scout/boy scout did camp at least once pretty much every summer doing all kinds of outdoorsy things like archery and shooting. They both turned out to love the outdoors.

I'm sure your kids are going to have a GREAT time!

I've never been to camp. I don't think it ever came up when I was growing up, no one I knew went to camp either.

I'm not sure if we would ever send our kids. We do a ton of outdoorsy stuff here - I mean, we live in a state park. Plus Ella (she's 9) is incredibly shy and she would never ever go if we gave her the opportunity. She won't even "let" me leave during her 2-hour weekly gymnastics class.

I went to Thespian Camp when I was 15. That was a blast -- almost all misfits & nerds with only 3 'popular' kids. We stayed in the lodge (vs. a cabin in the woods), but only the handicapped bathrooms were air-conditioned, so we used to run down the hallway shouting, 'Bathroom break!' We would all then run into the bathroom, close the door, and cool off! LOL!

My stepson is way too picky abt food (and pretty non-compliant/rule-breaking) so there is no way he would ever go to overnight camp (or want to). DD is only 4 and DS only a few weeks old, but I hope that when they hit 8 or 9 or 10 that they would be interested in attending camp.

I was not a day camper or a sleep away camper. When we went, it was usually as a family, and we headed up to Maine. It was wonderful. My parents rented a little woodsy cabin, and we had friends nearby.

As for my kids, since we both work, the boys have spent summers at a YMCA day camp. Swimming, hiking, wall climbing, archery, soccer, and other stuff.... It's been a good fit, except for the price. Gulp. We are sending them only a couple weeks this year as things are a bit tighter, but then they will hang out with their grandmother and go to the shore, pool, boardwalk, and other stuff I've planned. I'm sure they will still have fun, but will really enjoy those two weeks at camp!
