Oh this is so foreign to me!! Okay... after a lengthy discussion with my daughter (12 yo) over the weekend about what to do with all of her photos on her phone, we have decided to give physical project life/pocket scrapping a go. We are keeping it simple and only using design U which is all 3x4 slots. She is currently labeling all of her photos using the collect app (we're starting as of March 1st as not to get to overwhelmed). I am 100% digital, so this is all new to me. I would like to print some cards from my Lilypad stash for her to use. How do you print yours? I do have a color printer, but I need to hook it up and get some ink. Does anyone send their cards out to be printed or does everyone print at home? Further to printing at home... paper suggestions? I seriously don't have a clue (my printer has only been used a handful of times in the five years I've had it and then it was mainly for last minute school projects!). And then, my final question (for the moment)... how do you cut the printed cards? Thanks for the help! I really don't even know where to begin!

I don't print at home, or do hybrid, so I'm not a big help.

I can tell you that I've seen in person the journal cards Persnickety Prints, and they are awesome. You might want to take a gander at this thread: https://the-lilypad.com/forums/showthread.php/30133-Printing-Your-PL It has a few responses on printing the cards, not just on printing the done pages. I don't use the collect app (iphone only) but I did hear on the Digi Show with Chari from Persnickety that there is a setting you have to check if you want the journaling to print when you export it. You probably know that, but just in case :thumbsups

i print at home - i have an epson printer and i use epson paper for printing the cards - each week, i usually make a letter size file in photoshop and add the photos, cards, and elements that i want to print and cut, then print that page and use a small paper cutter (or scissors if i am in the carpool lane cutting them out).

i also found that the free pic stitch app will let me set up 2 3x4s on a 4x6 photo and send it straight to my printer (it even has an option to print to walgreens if you don't have a printer you can connect to remotely). on my mac, i use lightroom or picasa to set up the photos 2 to a 4x6 for easier printing if i am just doing one or two.

if i am feeling really organized (or really behind, as the case may be), i will sometimes upload a bunch to walgreens and print there if they have a good print sale - even for the journaling cards, just use a sharpie or slick writer to write on them!

I print at home and cut the cards with my Silhouette. Of course, one can get much cheaper cutters that cut in a straight line, but I already have the Silhouette, so why not?

I use a heavier weight paper, not as heavy as cardstock or photo paper, but noticeably sturdier than standard printer paper. All the brands and measurements are different over here, so it's not really worth recommending specifics, although I think all the US-based hybriders I know use Epson Matte Presentation paper.

I print from home, I use Neenah Bright White cardstock and use a Fiskars paper trimmer... I have a Silhouette, but choose to cut my journal cards with the paper trimmer because I can fit more cards on a page for printing... I don't like to waste paper :) You can fit six 3x4" cards or three 6x4" cards on one sheet... you can also fit one-6x4" w/ four 3x4" on one page... or two-6x4" and two-3x4" on one page... keeping in mind that you will fit that on an 8" x 10.5" canvas for printing w/o having to print borderless... because when you print "borderless" it increases the sizes of your cards, so you'll have to trim off excess which means cutting off anything along the edges.

Ah, that makes sense. Yeah, I'm not going to get that much out of an A4 no matter what I do, so I'll stick to being lazy with my Silhouette. ;)

Off topic: how much clearance between cards does the silhouette need?

test... I've typed three replies and they've all failed to post... just doing a test post before I type my novel again. :-)

Thanks to Heather, this is exactly what I do as well. Super easy and fast and the cards look great.

Okay... let's try this again!

Thank you so much for the information! I'm going to get my epson up and running so we can start printing cards! I think I'll still send photos out though... still thinking that one through. I've been wanting to give Persnickety Prints a try, so this may be when I do.

Thanks for the pic stitch suggestion! I tried it out yesterday and it seems really cool! I like the send to Walgreens option. I don't know how much I'll use that... but it's good to have options!

I'm so excited to start this journey with her! I want her to see the value in the pictures that she takes... they're not just something to enjoy for a couple of seconds and then discard. And being 100% digital, I'm excited to play with paper a bit with no pressure!

Thanks again!! (and fingers crossed this posts this time!)
