What food takes you back to childhood and gives you all the warm fuzzy warm feelings?

For me it's either the pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, or stuffed cabbage rolls. Those were my grandmother's specialties and they always remind me of her. :beat

Another weirdo thing she used to feed me was broken up graham crackers in a bowl with milk. And yes they got soggy. I don't really eat that now, but I think about it a lot so maybe I should. lol

Kniffles (German Dumplings my grandmother makes)
Mashed potatoes
Meatballs
and
Mac and Cheese

My mom's potato soup. My grandma's knoephla soup.

Graham crackers here too, Angie - my great grandma used to serve them to us along with heavily creamed-up coffee (cream fresh from the cow).

Oh man, Grannie's noodle soup - it's a magical cure for colds/sinus related stuff. It's a spicy broth w/ just noodles added to it and it was the best stuff for helping clear your sinuses and feel a bit better. My Mom's kneophla soup is another one and the ultimate bad for you - my mom's awesome caramel rolls. I can smell them right now just thinking about them. LOL

There is something about a grilled cheese and tomato soup when I'm feeling yicky. Magic.

Okay... I hope you are ready... because my "country side" is going to show when I answer this one. :P

fresh peas and cornbread - mmmmmmmm that takes me back.
fresh cooked creamed corn with lots of fine pepper. Just smelling it take me way back.
fresh cucumbers and tomatoes
country gravy on a biscuit

awww man... I'm hungry!!

my mom's lima bean soup...
grilled cheese and tomato soup (must be campbells) is another....

rice & milk, it is a dish where you cooked your rice with milk instead of water and ends up being like a soup kind of deal.

My mom is 'required' to make her famous mashed potatoes at every family gathering. She also sometimes makes a broccoli-cheese casserole that I could eat in one sitting.

My mom's goulash was soooo good! She wasn't much of a cook but there were a few dishes that I just loved. She also made fantastic rice pudding, just the right consistently and spices...yum! She wasn't a baker per se...but her peanut butter cookies were delish. For comfort food in general, I agree, tomato soup and grilled cheese.

I've ALWAYS loved mashed potatoes! But I just did a layout of a candy that I don't eat often but it always take me back to being a kid.

Oooh chips and dips is another. My grandmother made dip with a container of sour cream + that dried onion soup mix. Love that stuff.

Now I want that.

mac and cheese or grilled cheese...something about that cheese...mmmm

My comfort food tastes are usually salty and/or cheesey foods. Not really any childhood faves - but my mom was not a good cook so that's probably why I like my snacks better than any kind of meal we used to eat!

My mom used to live in a town called the Red Flannel Town because they had a factory that made the red flannel jammies with the flap in the back. They still have a parade every year even though the factory isn't there anymore. Anyway, my Mom used to make what she called Red Flannel hash. It was corned beef hash (like hormel from the can) and then she add little cubes of beets to make it all red and then she'd fry that in the pan until it was all crispy and then she'd fry an egg on top. Sounds totally weird and gross, but I loved that as a kid. :)

Anything with mashed potatoes so kale mash, endive mash, carrot mash whichever my Mom made when I was a kid :)
