O.M.G. I would be so mad! I'd definitely call. WTH? It's not her place to squash the dreams and beliefs and fun of children.
 
I would definitely call. I can understand kids talking and coming up with ideas on their own, but an adult interjecting into their conversation JUST to take away something meaningful to them is just plain wrong.
 
I would be on the phone so fast. I agree with Jewelle in that those that know should have the respect and decency not to ruin the magic for others.
 
That is so sad. I'm so sorry that happened to your daughter Laura. I really feel sad for the lady that spoiled it for your daughter too because I can't imagine being such a sad or mean person that you would stoop so low as to squash the joy in a child like that. I doubt a phone call would do any good and if anything if might make that person even more mean to the kids. You should have your daughter give her a tiny little present from Santa's elves to help the mean adult lady believe in the joy of Santa again. You could even have your elves deliver the gift with a note that they heard about the mean lady and that she needs some Christmas spirit!
 
That is so unfortunate! I'm so sorry Laura! She truly did overstep!!! I would totally say to her what Allison said. What a great idea. :)
 
I haven't called yet. LOL My regular volunteer day is Monday, so I am going to pop in and talk to the principal then. I'll post if I need you guys to bail me out. Ha. He's not very holiday sensitive...
 
Oh good luck! You'll have to let us know how it goes. I'd be so annoyed, that's totally not her place to say anything at all.
 
I like Karen's idea to have the elf send a not to your daughter that he heard about the lady that needs a little Christmas spirit.

YOu could always make a little note like this and leave it secretly with candy:

We know you work in the kitchen,
but us elves you see are on a mission.
our silly antics, giggles and games
are made for fun, not meant to be lame
Children love it and enjoy it so,
We ask that perhaps you could go with the flow.
Laugh and smile and enjoy the smiles
Let the kids believe at least for a little while!

but we really want to say
is Merry Christmas and May you have a great day.

put that on top of a box of candy

I would definitely call Laura. That was just mean and spiteful. period. Who's the adult? Definitely NOT this lady! My kids have always been taught there is no Santa (per say) and elves and tooth fairies and Easter bunnies and so on. I just didn't have the heart to tell them something that wasn't true but kudos to those who can get by with it. I just cannot lie to save my life and by age 1 they'd figured it out, I am sure! LOL! BUT with that being said, I have always told my kids that some kids believe in Santa and "the others", so we have to keep our secret a secret from them. It worked like a charm. My kids always felt like they had one up on the other kids who believed but those kids didn't have their joy stolen due to my child. KWIM? I would be furious. My daughter had a similar issue in 2nd grade with the librarian. She was saying how she believed in God and that she was saved and all. The librarian told her that God was just a story people tell and that no one "NEEDS" saving. I was livid. That lady actually was forced into retirement the following year. Apparently, I wasn't the only "complainant". As I am sure you aren't alone either if she told a group of kids this. Their parents, I am sure, have called. Good luck sweetie!
