Have you done yours? How far back can you go?

My parents are both adopted. My grandparents are all dead. And I don't talk to my father. So my ancestry pretty much ends right here.

All I know for certain is that I'm at least 25% Irish.

The rest is a mystery.

How about you?

Um... I know who my great grandparents are. That's about it. I'm a total mutt... mix of everything put together, so who knows where all my ancestors came from.

My brother has really jumped on the Ancestry bandwagon lately and has our mother's side going all the way back to France when our relatives got on a ship and made it to Nova Scotia and then migrated down to Louisiana. He keeps me updated when he finds cool information. I guess he's gone back about 7-8 generations now. My dad's side has also been done by one of his cousins but we don't have much information from her....yet! :)

I am adopted. I know virtually nothing about my biological family tree - I found my biological parents in 1998 because of health issues with my then 3 year old son. Found out where he gets his autistic tendencies... I have more than one cousin on my dad's side that are non-verbal autistic and a couple more with high functioning autism/Aspergers.

Anyway - as for the family tree I was grafted onto... my paternal grandmother had her family traced back to the early 1600's in Sweden. My paternal grandfather's tree goes back to the late 1700's also in Sweden. My mother's side of the family is a bit sketchier because of her family being Russian, Polish, Latvian, and Lithuanian. We definitely have it traced to about the mid-1800's in Russia when her great-great-grandfather defected to France(?) So I grew up with all of these traditions and they are the ones I am passing down to my children.

My husband's family is crazy about their family tree.... early 1600's in England - his maternal grandmother's family is HUGE. We'd like to go to the All-American family reunion at Mattingly Settlement in Ohio sometime... I think it would be really cool.

On my father side i can go back to my Nali' (My Grandmother) to her Father and Mother. Nali hasteen" (My grandfather) I can only go back as far as his mom.
On my mother side I can go back to my Shima sani' (My Grandmother) to her Grandmother. But My Chei' (My Grandfather) I can only go back to his mom.

But the newer kids that have arrived in the family in the last 10 years, I really cant say..lol There is alot of them :)

I did some research a couple years back, but with the name "Smith"...well, it's difficult. I was able to go back about 3 or 4 generation on each side, and even got in touch with other family members. I'm sure I could put it together if I had more inclination, but that seems like an awful lot of work. lol

Not sure I'll ever get very far. I can get to great grandparents on one side but my one grandmother did not know her father.

It might pique my curiosity to look at this at some point, but hasn't yet.

I have "Campbell", so not that much better. And the other side I don't even KNOW. lol

My grandma and great grandparents did a lot of this stuff when I was young. All I recall from it is that I am related to Davy Crockett, and the man/men who created the Cessna airplane. What's cool is when I was in grade school, we did a family tree unit, and there was another girl who was related to Davy Crocket too, so we were like 200th cousins

My dad has gone back pretty far on both sides of my family. He found out in the process that he has an older half brother out there somewhere that was given away at birth. He has gone back quite a few generations already.

My mom has traced her side way, way, way back. I'm like 1000% English with a line here or there of Irish and Welsh. We have some Quaker, too.

I've traced my biological father's side way, way, way back. I'm like 1000% English with a line or two of Irish.

:giggle

My dad is 50% Polish. I'm not sure what his other 50% is. Likely German and French.
