OMG! We got slammed with Ticks yesterday and spent most of the evening like a bunch of monkeys picking ticks off each other. Yea, real quality time together, huh?!? I think it's because we didn't really have a winter here so it's going to be bad this year.

What 'Creepy Crawlies' are you battling or dread this summer?

Stink bugs. They're just so gosh darn annoying. They end up everywhere.

I officially NEVER want to live in Cow Butt Arkansas if there are that many ticks! Ticks you really only get here if you go into the woods camping. My son has been old enough for quite a while now to check HIMSELF for ticks after scout camping.

For me it's mosquitos. Once it hits dusk they come out in force and for some reason they just {love} me.

Ewwww... gross. We have ants. They are really annoying. They are the little teeny tiny ones that are impossible to get rid of because they are just everywhere. We finally found something that tames them back, but we have to treat every couple of months or they come back and throughout the house. The weird thing is that they aren't just looking for food. We get them in rooms that have no food in them. Just weird. I guess I'll quit complaining about my ants since it could be worse... *cringe*

Yeah ticks pretty much turn my into a screaming, flailing hysterical person. They give me the heebie jeebies big time!

The flies are always sneaking in my house! I hate those suckers. I don't care about the other bugs, but flies and their buzzing just annoy me so much!

My niece asked me today if I was afraid of spider webs. The girls apparently check their swing set before they go on for spider webs. So I had to clear out the webs - which I didn't even see - with a stick. It was too funny.

Yick.

I like the pretty bugs. Caterpillars. Lady bugs. Butterflies. Dragonflies. Or particularly interesting bugs. Like stick bugs or praying mantises.

Pretty much every other bug gives me fierce heebie jeebies. Fierce.

I loathe ants with the fiery passion of 1000 suns. Also mosquitoes. Yes, let's toss ticks in there too.

I loathe (and fear) lice even more. I am so thankful we haven't yet had to deal with them but ohhhhh I dread it and do everything possible to attempt to avoid it.

Spiders creep me right out, as useful as they are.

I'm not at all a fan of flies either. Or cockroaches. But both of those I can handle slightly better than the others.

This thread makes me *shiver*

agreed 100%

Gosh I hate bugs altogether. I don't think I could pick 1 pest that I hate the most. The most annoying to me are gnats or fruit flies or whatever they are, ants, centipedes, and earwigs. Seriously ew. at our old house there were centipedes in the basement sometimes and there would be earwigs in the garage. GROOOOOOSSSSS. Ants don't bother me at all when they are outside, but if they are in my kitchen or dining room, they totally ew me out.

I get the heeby-jeebies about pretty much all bugs, except maybe butterflies and dragonflies. But here in the spring when it alternates with warm days and below freezing nights, the sowbugs have woken up, but don't want to spend the night outside, so they come in through where the foundation meets the walls, they can squeeze through any tiny crack. So we have them crawling out from the walls in the basement. We treat them with chemicals that we spray along the baseboards, and it kills them as they crawl out. One spraying lasts about 90 days, so we only need to do this once a year. I wish we could put the chemical in the wall so I don't have to see them. Last spring was the worst and I vaccuumed up around 100 bug carcasses each day (*shudder*).

But the absolutely worst bug experience was when we went camping up at Turkey Point on Lake Erie. We were late arriving at the campsite, and although we had a reservation, they must have given away the best spots earlier in the day. We had 4 tents on our campsite, and if you looked straight up, the tree canopy was split into 2 equal halves - one half - leaves, the other half - no leaves. The tent caterpillars were eating away the leaves and the caterpillar line was right above our site, and they dropped heavily all day and night long, they sounded like heavy rain or hail, and you couldn't cook or have an open drink or they would fall in. It was disgusting!

What Sara said :)

Here, the mosquitos are supposed to be terrible. I've been hearing warnings about how bad they are for a few weeks now. Also, fire ants. Those things are attracted to my feet like a pig to well, you know. The love bugs are pretty annoying too...mostly while driving because they are impossible to get off the windshield!

This is us. We haven't found a good solution. It's more annoying than gross. It could be worse.

A great non-chemical way to get rid of ants is to use diatomaceous earth (food grade, not pool grade). It's a powder that is so fine it will stick to the ants and basically shred up their exoskeletons. I've used it for years and it works great. The only trick is you need to figure out exactly where the ants are entering so you can get them at the source. Once I find that little hole where they're coming in, I dump some powder over it and a short while later all the ants are gone.
