Ok, so I tried out my YakTrax for the first time today (these slip over your sneakers so you can run on ice/snow). It is 16 degrees F. I made it 1.5 miles before I could no longer feel my fingers and I had snot dripping down my nose.

So, what do you cover your hands with to keep them from freezing/being too hot? (I wore fleece gloves today and they stunk).

Please give me some tips for running in the bitter cold.

Oh man, you're hard core! I saw the thread topic and thought I could help, but I can't!
Living in San Diego has totally made me a weather wimp. I run at home on my treadmill when it's below 50 degrees, LOL. Hopefully someone can give you some good advice.

Mittens would keep your hands warmer than gloves. But normally I just wear those cheapo stretchy gloves from Target. If it's extra cold, I wear 2 pair. My hands are sometimes cold for the first mile or so, but eventually warm up.

Did you have a hat on? That helps.

Can't help you with the runny nose, though. I'm the queen of snot rockets. So sexy.

I bought a pair of these last winter and they were fantastic. A bit pricier than I had expected but well worth it. Plus they have "terry wiping surfaces" for my snotty nose.

I wipe mine on my gloves, too. Then throw them in the console in the van. One time my husband opened it and was like OMG ALL YOUR SNOTTY GLOVES. Haha.

I've been looking for cold weather tips, too.

Rachel, did the yaktrax work pretty well?

Can I offer some advice?

Treadmill or get a gym membership for the super cold months....

You are my hero Rachel! I ran outside today at it was 40 degrees and I had to stop 2 miles in because I couldn't feel my feet anymore, but I am used to this tropical climate here. It's really hard to run outside up North in Jan/Feb....

I have a treadmill and a gym membership :) I just hate running and going nowhere....although I recently found I could read my e-reader at the same time - so that kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

I ran 4 miles in the snow, with 30 mile per hour winds yesterday. Don't be a pansy. :giggle

I do admit it sucked, though. :whistle

I am a pansy...I admit it! Optimal running weather for me is 50-60 degrees, to be fair..after living here so long my blood is probably pretty thin, 40 feels like 15 :giggle

Ha ha, me exactly! I do like running in 50-60 degree weather though, it seems perfect. Better cold than hot though. I ran a marathon in Honolulu, Hawaii, and almost died from the heat and humidity. (The only marathon I've ever run, by the way.)

Well I'd PREFER it to be 50. LOL

I'm with Christine, cold is easier than hot for sure.
