I have a Canon 50D and was wondering if anyone had a 35mm prime that they liked. Do you own a Canon 35mm or an off brand. After reading about Melissa's use of her 35mm on her Nikon I wondering if using a 35mm would solve the "enlargement" problem of using a 50mm lens on a cropped sensor... any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. :)

I have the Canon 35mmL & while I do really like it I use the 85mm more although I am on a full frame so it may not be the feedback you need right now! I didn't see the thread about the enlargement so I don't know what that problem is but one thing I don't like about the 35mm is the facial distortion that I get if I am too close to the subject. I like that the lens will catch focus closer than the 85mm but for me it almost gets too much in the frame & I find that distracting.

I have a cropped sensor too and I bought the Canon 28mm f/1.8 for your same reasons - I love it! It is now always on my camera, instead of my 50 mm f/1.4 - I never could back up enough with the 50 mm.

This is exactly the problem I was having with my 50mm. It's fine with outdoor shots but I found it frustrating to shoot indoors with it. Now the question is, do I get a 35mm or a 28mm. Hmmmmmmm....

Renee, a 35mm is also on my wish list!! I borrowed Melissa's for a couple of weeks and was completely hooked. For indoors, it gives you SO much more space as opposed to the 50mm. I don't have experience with the 28mm, but a photography class that I was just in, said that you just have to be careful with that one being too wide angle and getting a bit of distortion (like extra long noses, etc.).

I couldn't believe how much extra room the 35mm gave me.

This is exactly the problem I have, too! I want a new lens, but will probably have to wait for a bit... I'll keep an eye on this thread, though. Good feedback.

I just posted on FB that I need input for a new lens! Should have checked here first! ;)
