Yesterday I started and today I have conquered!

I got it into my head to change my backup location of Lightroom, and then I got to thinking, it takes a long time just to update the catalog, so how long will it take to move the whole thing? I went into my library to see how many photos exactly were in there....
:scared<--- that was my face when I saw I had over 18,000 pictures in my catalog. lol

I figured I definitely needed to clean it up some before changing my backup location. I spent all day (I mean that almost literally - there was a short 2 hour break) going through every single photo and deleting bad pictures, duplicates, and others that I just didn't feel the need to keep on there (I save all my edited pictures that I want on my EHD anyway) anymore. Final photo count, around 3,000. I spent the rest of yesterday and today tagging them all in the catalog also.

And OMG. I don't know why I didn't tag them all earlier (hmmm... could it be because I had 18,000 in there???) because searching the tags in there is the most awesome thing ever. For example, if I type "Zach"+"Bella" it ONLY pops up pictures that have both of them tagged, not every single individual picture. Same if I typed in "2010"+"sleepy"+"Bella." It makes searching sooooo freaking easy. I am in total love.

The best part... as I was going through them all, I saw tons of photos that I forgot I had that I can't wait to use now.

Wow Trish, that sounds like a daunting task! Kudos to you for tackling it!! :notworthy

I am totally unorganized, but I'm fine with it. :giggle I have gotten more selective when I download pictures, so that helps a bit.
 
So, when do you want to drop by to organize and tag all of mine? lol.
 
Oh wow. I'm tired just reading abut it! But well done!! Yay for catching the organizing bug! I need to do that myself..it's always so empowering to feel organized!
 
I am jealous of your organization! I wish that was me, but I just don't have it in me right now to go through everything. Maybe next year...
 
woohoo! that's definitely one of my projects for next year - i know i would be SO much happier if i got it done!
 
Wow! That's crazy! Good for you for sticking to it and getting it done. I would have given up before I started!
 
Oh that is AWESOME... go Trish! Way to conquer. I'm super organized with my supplies... but my photos not so much. I really need to start tagging them as well so I can search like that.
 
you know, this is definitely on my list of things to do. i seriously need to accomplish this, but i just have to make the time for it.

i would also love to do this with my digital supplies, but i'm not sure that will EVER happen. i've started that about 4 different times, but i can never seem to get past the C's in my designers *lol*
 
I really need to tackle this too. I am new to Lightroom, so haven't really cataloged properly to begin with. I guess I need to learn a little more about it, so I know what I want to do and how to organize them.
