To cook or not to cook...

That is the question... I'm having my 4 wisdom teeth removed on Monday and I'm trying to think of quick meals I can throw in the oven or pre-make so I don't have to think about cooking next week. I want to make a meatloaf (which I do on regular basis) but if I just want to freeze it, would you cook and freeze or just make and freeze?

on a side note, I am soooo not looking forward to this tooth extraction. I'm sure I wil be in tonnes of pain and look like a chipmunk... AWESOME! *eyeroll*

I cook and freeze all the time for quick healthy meals. I hardly ever eat out. I like to know what I'm eating and how it's prepared.

I still have my wisdom teeth but I have had a few extractions and you are not going to want to eat much. There will also be some specific things you can't do (like drink through a straw). I suggest simple things like soups, instant mashed potatoes (always a favorite of mine when you need something soft). Meatloaf is a good idea, its soft enough but you have to be careful that the smaller pieces of meat do not (sorry if this is TMI) "stick" in the spots where the teeth were. Usually that isn't a big issue with wisdom teeth especially if you have some stitches. Don't worry about the pain, they'll give you good stuff to knock you out and after that, Ibuprofren works well. They may tell you to use up to 800 mgs (prescription strength) to help the soreness. (I was a dental assistant for about 6 years.)

On another note, I'd love some quick, friendly to cook/freeze/reheat healthy meals. We have food allergies so we have almost stopped buying pre-made meals but we hate cooking. lol.

I had extractions a few weeks ago and am going in for root canal on wed. I have IV sedation, it is so much better!
Like Julie, I would make and freeze.

Good luck with the extractions! I was definitely not in the mood to cook or even eat after getting mine out so I think your plan sounds good!

Well the food is not for me. lol. It's for my hubby and boys. But thanks Kat for all the info. It will be very helpful.

Unfortunately I will not be getting any sedation. My insurance will only cover $500 for the surgery which means I will be paying $1000 out of pocket. If I wanted anaesthesia, I would have to pay another $400 out of pocket. So I have to bite the bullet and do it without. I'm a little scared but I don't have a choice. Unless my kids want wisdom teeth for Christmas, it's what I have to do. :(

oohh now im glad i live in the uk and dont have to worry about the fees,i had mine out in my teenage years and had to go into hospital and be asleep for it no other way they would of done it im petrified of the dentist so good luck to you,
id make the meatloaf and freeze then cook it when you fetch it out also you could make a spaghetti bolognaise, chilli to go in the freezer

i don't know for sure what i would do renee.

i guess judging by the frozen food you can buy at the grocery (i.e stouffers lasagna, etc), their stuff is mostly already cooked and then frozen. so i think i would probably do that. cook it first, maybe most of the way but not all, and then freeze it.

good luck on your surgery. i've been there. not fun, but thankfully the mouth heals quickly.

umm, i may be the rude one, but, when mama's in pain, so's everyone else :D
if you don't have time to do the whole frozen thang, i'm sure they can grab some stuff on their own for a couple days!

Bahahaha!!!! You're not being rude at all! My husband will be fine but he gets home late and starting to make dinner at almost 6'Oclock with two hungry boys isn't the easiest. ;) I'll probably be sleeping. When I'm in pain I like to sleep... ;)
