If you could meet one historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I'm a big military history buff, so for me it's Eisenhower, the mastermind behind the D-Day invasion. This man is played such a tremendous role in changing the course of history. I would love to sit and talk to him about his thoughts and emotions on the morning of the invasion, knowing that 1. Sons, husbands, and fathers would give their lives because of an order from him and 2. Largely the success or failure of the invasion and ultimately the war rested on his shoulders. A pretty big burden to bear, I'd imagine.

another history buff here...i'd love to meet John Adams. I've read his biography and so many other books about him, I feel as if we could have dinner and the conversation would never stop!! I'd love to know how he felt about all that was going on around him and the cast of characters he came in contact with.

I would give anything to be able to meet and speak with C.S. Lewis. :beat:beat:beat

Then I would fly from England to Canada to meet L.M. Montgomery, too.

[Yes, I cheated. I love them both SO MUCH that I couldn't possibly choose between them. Ever.]

Ohhhhh. Good question. I've pondered this before and I always waffle back and forth between several. I think I'd have to go with Lincoln, though. I'd love to hear his heart about the decisions he had to make during such an unstable, divisive, and frankly scary time for our nation.

Though I confess, LeeAndra I too would LOVE to chat with C.S. Lewis. Wow.

For all these amazing, impactful figures I just have one word: gravitas.

I didn't answer why, did I?! I'm an author, too, and I'd love to rub elbows with some of (in my opinion) the greatest authors in the last few centuries. To hear them speak, seek their advice, be in their presence and soak up the literary goodness... sigh.

Bonus: With C.S. and J.R.R. being BFFs, maybe I could have tea with them BOTH. I guess I'd have to introduce myself to them as L.A. to fit in. :giggle

I guess I'm a little more shallow... I'd LOVE to meet Jimmy Buffett and have a drink or two with him and just listen to his fun stories. :) DH and I are HUGE parrotheads. We've been to about 10 of his concerts and they are so much fun! :)

Dead... I'd have to go with Martin Luther King, Jr.
Alive... Marian Wright Edelman is an amazing woman who does so much for the advancement and protection of children (or Bon Jovi... lol)

I've always been interested in the whole JFK 'cover up'.. so I'd def. say John F Kennedy!
