Seasonal Snacks

I do like strawberries, and I've got some growing in my garden this year (just a container of them) along with lots of blackberries, raspberries, and mulberries!! I don't really snack on them, but I do like to make smoothies or smoothie bowls when I have them. I'm going to try to make some sorbet this summer too.

My go-to snack was probably tacos and burritos from this place called Taco Tico! At home, it was and still is tortilla chips and salsa/guac or ramen noodles. I'm not an ice cream or cake fan, and I just don't remember having a lot of dessert type things growing up (not that I was deprived, I think I just didn't care for them as much).
I work with a guy who has absolutely no interest in sweets! It does baffle me, but I am sure it is all a brain to taste bud thing. Can't fault a person for loving some tortilla chips and guac! Yum!

Current: Mount Hood strawberries for the win!!! Hoods and Shucksands are some of the most flavorful berries I've ever had and they have a very short season. So far, we've bought and either eaten, given away, or cleaned and frozen 14 quarts the them.

Childhood: popsicles, particularly otter pops. We had a home popsicle maker as well and my mom froze Koolaid.

Twin pop popsicles when I was a kid. And Arctic Circle baby cones after swimming with the fam.

What was your absolute go-to snack on a hot summer afternoon when you were growing up?
A juicy slice of watermelon and a glass of iced-cold Coca-Cola, back when it was real Coca-Cola. I love watermelon ... yum. Nothing like it.

I love fresh strawberries in season and I'm so sad this year because I just got to the New Jersey shore for 3 weeks and I just missed the strawberries here and by the time I get home to Rhode Island I will have missed them there too!

Blueberries and cream, yum! Also I make this frozen drink in the mornings - a splash of grenadine, orange juice, sprite, and a chunk of fresh pineapple and lots and lots of ice. Tastes like summer!

Do you put salt on your watermelon? That was a thing my parents did, and I just didn't get it! Why ruin a perfectly good piece of sweet, fresh watermelon!

Well, that's just poor planning on your part! :giggle
