Happy iNSD and Welcome to Monday night (in the US) Slow Scrap - in the Chat room in about 40mins - steps will be added here as well

If you haven't seen my Reflections blog post from this weekend, I've been looking through old paper pages and had a chat in the backroom about it with the Pollys, so tonight I'm doing a retro inspired scrap and going back to my basics from like 20 years ago.

So let's jump in the time machine (it really doesn't feel that long ago to me but the Delorian has seen better days).

To paraphrase the late great Prince (or symbol)...

Well more like it's the early 2000's, I don't think I even owned a camera in 1999 and I don't want to push the time machine too hard.
When we arrive back in the present day (or if you're following along in the forum), you'll have until Tuesday, May 5 at 11am EDT to scrap your page and add it to the thread to go in the scrap cash prize draw!

Let's go. Start it up Doc & Marty.

Step 1: Find 2 or more photos & start with a basic solid background. Think black, white, kraft or any single rainbow colour like you would have bought as cardstock back from a paper scrap store.
(The photos can be from any year - they don't have to literally be retro photos)

Step 2: Arrange your photos & frame one (or more) somehow. You could use frames, mats or photo corners - remember those?

Step 3: Add another paper or 2 as an accent (maybe a border strip or block because pocket cards weren't invented yet). Choose at least one basic (classic!) pattern like a stripe , floral or polka dots. Basic doesn't have to be boring - it's also classic and timeless. Feel free to give it the 'fancy edged scissors' treatment for an extra retro touch.

Step 4: Add a few classic elements.
You must include a tag of some kind, as well as at least 1 of the following:

buttons, brads, stickers, ribbons, labels. (You can use as many of these as you'd like).

Step 5: Add a title with alphas or fonts ( optional journalling and word art and extras) **Feel free to personalize with additional elements or lines of journaling to truly make this your page. But you need to scrap with the spirit of the recipe, thank you.

Step 6: Shadow, save for gallery and upload with your credits.

Ok back in the time machine and back to the future.

Show me your contemporary retro pages in this thread!

(The Back to the Future Musical was ok to good to me if you have the opportunity to see it and i'm kicking myself i didn't think to scrap about that for this retro scrap- ah well , next time)

I did take a look at some of my pages from the early 2000's, and this is pretty close. I don't scrap like this anymore, this was a little tough, but it was a fun look back. Using that Cars Project Mouse kit definitely help keep it classic.

I would have loved to play along but with 30minutes to deadline I am skipping it. I loved your article and can so relate as that was how I started scrapping back in 2003.

Sorry I missed it! Started a page earlier but had to take a nap instead of finishing it. It was really hard to scrap this way!

i get the need for a nap - iNSD is a marathon, i feel like i need a scrap-nap this week too but also feeling generally motivated so who knows?

can i ask what you guys thought was hard? do you generally prefer more specific steps rather than open ones - like 'start with a kraft background', versus ' pick any solid background' ?? @elseepe @mcurtt @Meliora

Back with our random winner

Congrats @mcurtt - WTG! you survived the garden and got a page done and got a prize - will PM you shortly!

the style, I generally lean into more artsy, grungy backgrounds, or add in transfers brushes, messy stitches. more dimension than mostly flat. So it was hard to find these more "classic" or "traditional" and to work with them. I often struggle with anything that might be close to a clean & simple style. I can easily spend an hour choosing a plain white background :giggle
