Yahoo! The votes are in and we have a new batch of books to read together. :D

The book for May 2026 is The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. Feel free to read our book club books in any order that you choose and when you've finished reading, come back here and tell us what you think. Please label spoilers. We have a new trick for hiding spoilers. Type whatever you want and then highlight the spoiler portion and click the eye with a slash through it button above and select Spoiler. If that doesn't work just highlight your text and change the color to white >>>This is a super secret spoiler alert!<<< like I did right there.

Or...
Don't give away the ending for those who haven't finished yet!

Just a note, anyone is welcome to join in with our book club reading at any time and join in the discussion! The more the merrier! :agree Happy reading!

I also gave this one 5 stars- The audio version I think is SO much better. The narrator & cast is great!

I struggled at first with Sybil. I loved her letter writing, but I didn't love her at first. Overall, I do think it's about how anyone can find redemption and happiness if they choose to change- It just takes her almost her entire life to decide to do so.

I'm not done with the book yet, but...

I just got to the part where she writes Fiona after their painful phone call. So many tears, because I can relate to how life/grief/circumstances interrupt the mothering you wanted to do. How hard it can be to make your way back. How easy it is to slip into feeling optional in someone's life; how, especially as girls, we're raised to not have needs and then teach our daughters that, whether we mean to or not. Sigh.

This is what I posted on my book page on Facebook about this book:

"If you haven't picked up The Correspondent by Virginia Evans to read yet, what is taking so long?
If your name is not on a library wait list yet, get it on there ASAP!
It is literally one of the best books I've read in years and I read a LOT of books!"

This is such a beautiful book! Loved the format. Loved witnessing her evolution. Loved how it explored her relationships with family, friends, colleagues, even customer service reps. The ending was such a great payoff!

A couple of weeks ago I went to purchase this book for my Kindle only to discover the paperback version was on special for only $1 more than Kindle version, so I ordered it and the next months books in paperback to get free postage. It will be nice to hold a real book instead of my Kindle and also if I like any of the books I will be able to loan them out to friends. The books arrived today so I will start The Correspondent tonight or tomorrow.

Yay for finding a good deal on the paperback version. I hope you enjoy it! :)

I have finished reading this book and it did keep my interest to keep reading to the end.
I guessed very early in the book who the unsent letters were written to. How difficult it would have been to know you possibly could have prevented your child from dying. The story told through the letters was an interesting concept which I found enjoyable. So pleased the ending was happy. She died happily doing what she enjoyed.
