Welcome to week 3of Summer Camp 2025!

“July, with its days of blue skies and time that seemingly stands still,
holds a special place in my heart.”
Daisaku Ikeda

Hello, it’s my turn (Marijke) this week to host the ‘name a song’ game – a song that reminds you of summer on the water or by the pool

I go back in time … long time ago … to the year 1988. That year we were on a camping in near Arcachon …
We were on vacation with my husband's niece and her boyfriend. Our son was 9 at the time and with the five of us we spent a lot of time in the pool ...

One song that swung through the boxes every hour was 'bleu come toi' by Etienne Daho .... we loved it …

One of our vacation souvenirs that year was the 45 rpm record of 'blue come toi'

Now I'd like to hear from you what song reminds you of summer on the water or by the pool ...

There will be a random $5 winner chosen for this game.

Deadline:
Enter as directed by September 3 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Be sure to log your progress in your individual tracking thread within Summer Camp 2025 - Layouts & Game Links if you are wanting to participate in the additional prizes.

Prize:
One random winner will be selected from the eligible entries to receive a $5 Lilypad gift certificate.

Thanks for hosting Marijke!

For me it was always the Beach Boys and Surfin' USA ... really any Beach Boys hit but especially this one :) Always gets ya jumping with it's fun melody!

"Down by the Bay" is a goofy song that we used to sing to our boys when they were little and it reminds me of being near the water because of the main lyrics.

"Down by the Bay, where the watermelons grow, back to my home, I dare not go" (by Raffi - a kids artist)

Going with Wipeout from The Surfaris ‧ 1963
Not that I was down by the beach when this was released. I would have been 9. But my older brothers picked up the record and they played it constantly. :-)

My song has nothing to do with summer itself, but it totally reminds me of the summer of 1981 when all us girls from my dorm (before school got out in June) were laying on the deck getting our tans going. We had the Hi Infidelity album on repeat, and this was one of the singles that hit the Top Ten:

Man, I love REO Speedwagon. My kids do, too.

I grew up listening to a lot of country music. My dad loves Alan Jackson, and so when we would go boating, he would always have to play Chattahoochee, by Alan Jackson. It reminds me of spending the summer at Raystown Lake with my dad, my step-mom, my brother, and my grandparents. Lots of good memories, swimming, skiing, fishing, and just cruising around the lake.

This is a newer song I remember hearing on the radio one day driving my girls to their dance classes. I just love the soft relaxed feel of it and how it reminds me of summer as I remember it when I was a kid. The long hot days with nothing to do and I was free to be lazy, hang out with friends at the pool and just dream.

I may not get anything done today...I'm not sure I'll be able to choose just one. For now I'm sharing one of the songs that played on my transistor radio when I was "laying out" working on my tan...all the summer themes.

Well, the only thing that always reminds me of the summer holiday on the seaside is this awful awful song that was an earworm of one specific holiday on the Black sea back in the 80s, when you couldn't go anywhere without hearing this song in the Soviet Union.
