And just like that we are in August. It is crazy how fast the summer goes by!!!

Here in the U.S., most kids are gearing up to head back to school. In the spirit of back to school and some art class vibes, time to break out those scissors and your glue. We are going to be creating a collaged background.

I have 2 examples for you:
A traditional very clean background with those nice straight lines.

and . . .then we have the artsy example, which is a mix of ripped/torn paper, paint, washi paper printing to create that fun messy look.

So here's the plan:
  • Create a collaged background ( it can be a tag, journal card, greeting card or bigger).
  • The collaged background needs to have a minimum of 4 papers to create that collaged look.
  • Layer at least one element on top of the background.
  • This must be a hybrid project
  • You may NOT use an existing collaged paper from any existing kit/collection as your background. You may use it as part of your background but it canNOT be your actual background.
  • You may use a template if you need one to help you out, just keep in mind it still has to be a hybrid project.
  • You can use any products in The Lilypad store or retired products from current Lilypad designers, you just have to make sure you follow our gallery guidelines.
  • Layouts must contain at least 50% TLP products (Templates count as 15%). Uploads must be less than 250k. List all credits; no off-site linking allowed.
Please post your layout to the Hybrid gallery prior to Midnight EST August 31, 2024 and then post it in this thread by copying the code (at the right of your gallery image) from the box under "Share BB Code". We will randomly draw one winner from the ones that are participating in the challenge.

This year, the winners will be eligible to pick out a Memory Pocket Monthly collection of own choice (the latest release excluded), worth $14.99.

Tag me if you have any questions and I can’t wait to see your fabulous creations!!!

Thank you for this challenge Esther !
I tried for the first time to make a hybrid card!
I'm not convinced of the result :angry

This is gorgeous! Did you fussy cut those elements? I try that and I don't get anywhere near the results you do!

This was so much fun. Thank you for the challenge, Esther! I used different papers from Anita's Celebration kit to make the background. I found this technique on Youtube and it's called the Herringbone card. I will say it took longer than 10 minutes, but I had so much fun that I made many of these!

LOVE the herringbone!! I know it is tedious to glue down, but it looks oh so fabulous!!!

Oooh! Great challenge and I love all the projects so far!

I know it’s hard to see, but for the background, I used leftover paper from various collections in neutral colors by Lynn and Rachel that were lying on my desk. I also incorporated book pages, music sheets, and stamps printed on deli paper. Then, I applied gesso, acrylic paint, and ink to unify everything. I also added a lace ribbon, string and mini clothespins from my stash. The rest of the credits can be found in the gallery.

These are so fantastic! :D

I used a page in my journal that already had paint and stamped letters on it. I collaged torn pieces of paper over it, leaving parts of the paint visible. The pocket and journaling tag were made with papers from the same Lynn Grieveson collection as well as the letters in WANDER. The grey stripey paper is from my own stash.

Wow that trim is perfect! I love the way these tags turned out and would frame them if I made ones that looked like these!

I love that you changed up something you already had laying around. I'm trying to be more frugal with my craft budget and this was a perfect example of how to stay creative without breaking the budget. Love the layers upon layers here!
