Happy National Merry-Go-Round Day!

When’s the last time you were on a Merry-Go-Round?
Do you go for a specific animal or color or location when you get on?
If you designed a Merry-Go-Round, which animals would you include?
When you think of a Merry-Go-Round, does a specific place or person or animal come to mind?

When’s the last time you were on a Merry-Go-Round?: Maybe 6 months ago? at a fair thingy in town
Do you go for a specific animal or color or location when you get on? I don't know most around here are just plain boring horses
If you designed a Merry-Go-Round, which animals would you include? Fun ones like Elephants, Camals, Dogs, Cats, maybe a pig
When you think of a Merry-Go-Round, does a specific place or person or animal come to mind? just horses normally and I think of my childhood

When’s the last time you were on a Merry-Go-Round?
Disneyland (magic kingdom) in September
Do you go for a specific animal or color or location when you get on?
Just whatever catches my eye and is pretty
If you designed a Merry-Go-Round, which animals would you include?
I agree it would be interesting to see some more fun animals other than horses

At California Adventure at Disneyland, they used to have a Merry-Go-Round that I loved -- King Triton's Carousel of the Sea. It was gorgeous and all sea creatures like dolphins and sea otters and fish etc. I was sad to see when I went there recently that it had been re-themed to a Toy Story theme.

- probably when I went on this one with my youngest.

Do you go for a specific animal or color or location when you get on?
no

Safari Animals would be fun.

Normally I think of the horses on the old traditional merry-go-rounds. We have one at our local working museum. This photo is of me and my mum when I was pregnant with my eldest

1976 at Cedar Point.

Not a fan of them, I preferred the roller coasters when I went to amusement parks.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen dogs or cats on a Merry-Go-Round; what a fun idea!

Disneyland was my last time too! I miss the King Triton one because water animals are my favorite!

Thanks for sharing a page and a photo Angela. I love the circle page design for Merry-Go-Round photos. Our local zoo has a Merry-Go-Round featuring safari animals; it’s adorable.

Um ... a merry-go-round to me is a playground ride ...

Last time I was on a merry-go-round was at least 20 years ago. Happened to find a local playground with one and took my grandkids. My elementary school had one BITD.

Last time I was on a carousel was at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World January 2023.

We had that playground ride nearby when I was little and it was my favorite! Now my kids have something similar at their school but it’s to hang on; they call it the witch’s hat and it is so dangerous!

Happy National Merry-Go-Round Day!

When’s the last time you were on a Merry-Go-Round? TODAY! LOL I went to an amusement park with family today
Do you go for a specific animal or color or location when you get on? I just try to get one that moves up and down
If you designed a Merry-Go-Round, which animals would you include? I don't know! Just a big variety I guess. Today I was on a pig.
When you think of a Merry-Go-Round, does a specific place or person or animal come to mind? At the amusement park we go to, they have lots of different animals - my daughter has always loved the frog with plaid pants. I also think of the mall carousel I used to work at for a short time - I had just moved across the country to Philadelphia and was pregnant with my first son. I had a job but before he was born I also worked part time at the mall carousel to make a little extra money - easiest job ever.

I think the last carousel we were on was the one in San Francisco back in 1996! It is an amazing carousel to ride!

@Memaw2Wm brings up a good point! I'd say I've been on merry go rounds, the playground ride, more often and more recently than a carousel. We had a merry go round in one of the parks my kids frequented when they were children (it has been removed, sadly, and replaced with something that looks like just a multicolored plastic bridge with playthings attached). I estimate the last time I rode on that old merry go round was circa 2012.

I could not think of when I might have been on a carousel. Perhaps it was way back in 2003, the one on the mall in Washington, D.C., as I found this photo of me holding my oldest on that one, age 2.

So I haven't had much experience with carousels but knowing myself, if I were to go on one tomorrow, I'd be most attracted to a variety of animals and even imaginary creatures, all painted in many cheerful colors. When I think of carousels," however, I do default to horses. Especially because my mom had a lifelong love for all kinds of horses, including carousel horses. In the 90's (it took most of the decade, while I was busy with college and early marriage and beginning teaching) I cross-stitched a picture of carousel horses for her.

I honestly can't remember the last time I was on a merry-go-round! Probably when my now 16 year old was 8 or so. I don't have a specific animal or color I gravitate to. If I were to design a merry-go-round, I'd make it reptilian! I think that would be unique and fun. :)

How fun that you rode one on the National Day! I prefer the ones that move up and down too. I bet you’re the only one here who can say they’ve had a carousel job too!

I actually rode a carousel in San Fran with my girls when they were little! Maybe it was the same one!

That cross-stitch is beautiful Michele! I love the photo of you and your oldest on the carousel too. I was always afraid my kids would fall off the animals when they were little, especially if they picked one that moved up and down.

Reptilian would definitely be unique and fun! I’m trying to think if our local zoo one includes any reptiles but I don’t think so!

Forty odd years ago I had my kids and a nephew at an amusement park. My kids climbed up on the carousel horses, I buckled my nephew on a horse, then stepped off the ride to watch, the carousel started rotating and it suddenly occurred to me that Davy was only 16 months old. Thankfully he survived the ride … totally forget he was 4 years younger than my youngest.
