Hi Everyone...

It's currently snowing, and we are told 8" might fall! It was an up and down roller coaster of rain, no snow, then a foot, and now we are at 8. School is closed and I'm home from work! (Not that I mind)

I'm signing up my son for a ski trip through school.... and he's excited. I'd rather be by a fireplace reading than racing down the mountain in the cold! lol! I have skied before, but it's just not my thing in the winter. I'd rather water ski than snow ski!

I could spend hours on a Snowmobile, though. Another that isn't for me is ice skating... I can't stay up.

What about you?

This would be me...

I went skiing with my GK once, maybe twice. I did okay, but stuck to the bunny slope. I prefer to watch the GK ski and take photos.

When I was younger I loved to ice skate. Bought a new pair of skates at the end of 2019 to replace the pair I bought in 1973, went ice skating once ... forgot how stiff new skates are!!! ... then COVID hit and I haven't been back. At this point I'm reluctant/afraid that I'll fall (or more likely, get knocked over by another skater) and break my leg/hip as a bone/density scan two years ago showed I've lost bone density in my femur neck.

I grew up skiing and snowboarding and like to go but it’s not worth the time or effort or money to me any more.

Nope, never gone skiing for a very good reason.

I sprained my knee one summer in junior high and then tore the cartilage in the same knee 2 years later the summer before 10th grade. Fast forward 10 years I was having trouble with that knee "going out" on me. I worked at a hospital so saw an orthopedic surgeon. At the ripe old age of 25 I had the beginnings of osteoarthritis in that knee. And, he also told me I had "Joe Namath" knees (any longtime fan of the NFL should understand that!). He advised against snow or water skiing. I did bowl at the time and he suggested that I wear a knee elastic wrap during the activity. I no longer bowl but even if I take the dog for a walk, I still wear something to stabilize my knee.

He also told me that I would probably have to have knee surgery. So far I've avoided that!

(I'm so glad I'm not getting that snow!!!!)

I have been skiing a few times- maybe 5 or 6 times altogether? I grew up and currently live in Alabama, and we actually have one ski place in the state- Mentone- which is artificial snow only. My church youth group went to Mentone a couple of times when I was in jr. high and high school. My church youth group also went skiing in Indiana at a place called Paoli Peaks when I was in high school. My parents lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin before I was born, and they loved cross-country skiing so when we got snow (very rarely) when I was growing up, they let me try out their cross-country ski gear-- it was fun!
After I got married and we had kids, we took them skiing a couple of times in North Carolina at Maggie Valley and in Tennessee at Gatlinburg. They loved it, and my son snowboarded as well as skied. I have a bad back (degenerative disc and arthritis) and broke my tailbone years ago, so skiing and skating have been things I've been reluctant to do- I don't want to have to get back surgery if I can avoid it!
I do love to watch the ski competitions in the Olympics- ski jumping looks like such a rush! Also, the snowboard half-pipe looks like it would be so much fun!

I skied 5 times in the winters of 1992 and 1993 with my college boyfriend, all in the Big Bear Mountains of southern California. I enjoyed it. My husband also skied several times in high school, at which time he lived in Utah. However, we have never skied together. It's ok, and I'm not interested in skiing any longer.

Doesn't sound like many of us are skiers, lol!

DH Grew up on the mountains. My kids know how and enjoy it! For me, it's expensive, lol!~

I learned to ski (downhill) in Colorado and it was amazing. So beautiful and the conditions were amazing. Skiing in Michigan is just not the same, especially the last few years when we don't get enough snow.

When I was a kid we used to do a lot of cross country skiing, which is definitely a great work out! I've gone a handful of times as an adult and took my kids too.

Hubby and I used to own snowmobiles before kids and I LOVED that! Especially when we'd take trips to the upper peninsula (UP) of Michigan where they gets lots of snows! It's so pretty up there in the winter!

I've never been snow skiing, but I can water ski! My dad and grandfather taught me when I was pretty young!

:compcoffee:lmao No, I do not ski :giggle
We have a nice ski resort about 10 minutes from the house and I think sometimes that it might be fun. Then I remember that I don't like snow or cold :giggle. I also remember that most of the time I can't walk without tripping over my own feet.
In my younger days, I liked going tubing, but not for very long and there had to be a bon fire close by :)

I do ski, but not a ton. I live in Utah - greatest snow on earth! The only issue is it's so expensive, however my husband makes it a priority. A few years ago we all had lessons and got all the gear. Turns out I love being out in nature but I do not love going down steep hills so I mostly stick to the bunny hill. My kids all like it to varying degrees but my husband LOVES it and goes at least once a week in the winter. We are super lucky to live 25 minutes away from great skiing!

When I was 5 or 6 years old, my parents took me to a local ski slope for some beginner lessons. I'll never forget being partway down the bunny hill, absolutely paralyzed with fear, and refusing to move from the spot. They had to get a member of the ski patrol to help me down the slope, and I was so embarrassed, just mortified. I can't help thinking this may have put me off skiing for life!

I admire the athletic derring-do of downhill skiers, but I've never had any aspirations to join their ranks. I do like ice skating, though.

I ski, but not as much as I used to. We used to buy annual passes for the family, but that was before Tyler (now 6) was born. I've only gone once this season >> Whistler, BC for my birthday in December.

I used to ski but it’s been years. I have some issues with my knee cartilage so no more skiing for me.
