Hi all! Sorry I’m late to chat today, but I’ve been assembling some exercise equipment and it’s taking a looooooong time.

Do you prefer to buy things pre-assembled or assemble them yourself?
Have you ever assembled something? How long did it take?
 
Most things need at least partially assembly. If the instructions are nice and clear I quite like assembling stuff, and so does my son. Unfortunately instructions are far to often vague making it stressful.
 
I don't mind assembling things. If they instructions are unclear, I usually check YouTube for a video. There's almost always one of someone walking through the assembly process.

I don't like assembling things when the connectors are special just for that thing. Like a different screw bit from anything else, or a weird wrench size. I hate having to keep that special tool just in case.

I completely agree that instructions are often vague. It makes it so much harder!

Good idea to use YouTube along with the instructions. Two sources are better than one!

I have a love/hate relationship with assembling stuff. The most recent thing I "assembled" was a pass-me-down gaming chair that was given to my grandson. No instructions, but how hard could it be to hook the back of the chair to the seat/legs, then attach the arms. Yeah ... PITA ... then once it was assembled I discovered that it wouldn't fit through the door into the room where my grandson games.

So disassemble, move the pieces into the room, reassemble again. Sheesh!
 
I used to be able to put things together by myself but haven't been able to for about 10 or 15 years. Since my rotator cuff surgery in 2002, I don't have the strength in my right hand that is needed. I did put 2 different smaller pieces together in 2022 but hand my neighbor tighten every thing up for me.
 
Filing cabinets - assembled for sure. I remember we bought one at Walmart (unassembled) - what a nightmare that was. We could not do it, was the poorest quality thing ever. My husband was so fed up, he threw all the parts into the car, drove it back to Walmart. At Walmart, he threw all the pieces into a cart and returned it. He must have looked like a crazy person. Never again, never again!

It’s the worst when it’s a PITA! One piece wasn’t fitting today and I was soooo afraid we would have to disassemble and reassemble! Thankfully we squeezed it in.

My shoulder started hurting while assembling today; it’s rough! I also feel like I don’t have enough strength to get everything tight enough.

Poor quality definitely makes assembly worse!
 
I put together a bike for my grandson (age 3) it has no pedals as it is meant to push with your feet. Now the directions are visual and brief. The hard part is figuring out what size bolts go where. If you have visual instructions, that is fine, but please identify each part with a sticker to the alpha/number it goes to.

Yes! I wish every part and every bolt could be labeled so it was easy matching!
 
I love assembling things myself. :giggle One of the things I do for my job is make "lego instructions" for how to build the assemblies that we make (analytical instrumentation) so I love to critique other people's assembly instructions. Ha ha ha! But, I've always loved to build things. When my parents get anything requiring assembly, they always call me and I come running to put it together for them. Lol.

"Lego instructions" = here are a handful of part and here's where they go. Flip page, here's another handful of parts and here's where they go.

I wish I could’ve had you assemble instead of me this weekend! Thankfully we’re finally done lol
 
I'm an IKEA fan so I think I can say I like to assembly things. Just the other day I assembled hubbys paper sheets desk organizer. I just couldn't wait for him to do it and wanted his desk, which I happen to use sometimes too for online classes and printing my materials, tody lol.

But when we do it together we might get into a fight because we both have our opinions on how to proceed and sometimes it's not in sync :lmaoFight might be a big word, let's say argument :giggle
