Welcome to the Document Your December event here at The Lilypad! I’m here with another challenge to help you jumpstart your holiday spirit. Traditions are so important to our family, and I love hearing about everyone else’s too. In fact, sometimes we adopt new ones after talking to people! For this challenge, I’d like you to tell me your favorite tradition and then describe your tradition in one word. Once you have your word, you’ll scrap a page using an element that corresponds to each letter of your word.

I’ll show you what I mean. In our family, we love to play with puns and tell jokes – the cornier the joke or pun, the better! So I will describe our tradition with the word “JOKES”. I made my page using DYD Holly Pine by NBK Design and included the following:

J – juniper
O – ornament
K- key
E – eight word strips
S – snowflakes

See how easy that is? Now you don’t HAVE to scrap a holiday themed page – it can be whatever theme you like. You just have to make sure you use a word that describes your holiday tradition. Does that make sense? Feel free to ask any questions!

The great part is not only do you get to share your tradition, stretch your brain, finish another page, but you also will be entered into a drawing for a $3 coupon!

So, let’s recap the rules:

1. Summarize a family tradition into one word and use elements on your page that correspond to each letter in that word. PLEASE let me know what your word is and which elements correspond to which letters.

2. Layouts must contain a minimum of 50% TLP products to comply with our gallery standards. Any templates used count for a total of 15%.

3. You must post your layout in the TLP gallery and then post in this thread with a link to the gallery image of your page.

4. This challenge closes on Monday, November 13 at 11:59pm EST. A random entry will win a $3 coupon to The Lilypad store.

5. Most importantly... HAVE FUN!

You are living my dream. I seriously always wanted Christmas pj's and my husband never wanted to spend the money. I'm so jealous and this is the greatest layout!

Thank you Robin! I’m sorry your husband vetoed Christmas pj’s :-/ they’re the one tradition we kept from my husband’s family.

My favorite Christmas Tradition is the Pickle Ornament - an adult hides a pickle ornament on the tree. The first kid to find it gets an extra present (typically a bag of candy at our house!)

P - Paint
I - Illustraion (I'm counting the little car doodle for this)
C - Confetti
K - Key
L - Label (orange label above the journal card)
E - Envelope

First, I had absolutely no idea what to scrap about, but then I realized it's Document Your December, and I don't have to scrap a Christmas tradition. Hence, here's our New Year's tradition, been going on for 20 years now!

Every year we make a birthday cake for the new year - and it's an "ugly cake", i.e. decorate it as ugly as possible. I chose the Swedish word FULTÅRTA for my instructions.

F - Flowers
U - Unicorn
L - Leaves
T - Template
Å - Year Tags (year = år in Swedish)
R - Ribbon
T - Tag
A - Arrow

And here's the layout:

Thank you for the fun game!
Every year we like to watch Christmas movies. We gather around our fireplace, sit under blankets and watch the classics and new ones. We also have hot cocoa with whipped cream and mini marshmallows...

F - Flair
I - Ink
L - Leaves
M - Merry Christmas (sentiment tag)
S - Splatters

Okay I’ve never heard of this tradition and my son says we will be starting it this year. He likes having a Nee Year tradition besides the New Years Day meal we typically have. Dessert goes right along with it!

We do the same! We used to watch the Polar Express on Christmas Eve and pause it when before the movie’s Christmas morning scene. Then, when the kids got up, we’d put that on while I got coffee and presents were sorted. I miss those days!!

Thank you for the challenge Robin.
Our Christmas tradition: At Christmas breakfast there is always a STOL (a bread with marzipan, raisins and candied fruit)

S (splatter; staples, sequins)
T (template)
O (ornament)
L (leaf)

Well, it's a tradition we invented for our family when John was a kid. No wonder you never heard about it. New year's is very much a celebration for adults, ie fancy dinner & alkohol. We wanted it to be a party for our son, and making a cake felt like something he would like. Realized when I made the layout, this year's cake will be the 20th one. We need to go BIG this year!
