Happy National Gumbo Day!

It is cold and rainy in my neck of the woods today so gumbo sounds so good right now! When I was little my mom would add canned gumbo soup to her sloppy joes recipe so that was my first introduction to gumbo. Now I enjoy my favorite gumbo at Disneyland in a sourdough bread bowl. It is spicy and full of vegetables and delicious and worth the outrageous price because it actually fills you up.

How about you? Have you ever had gumbo? If anyone has a good recipe I’d love to try it because I’ve never made gumbo from scratch.

I've never made gumbo myself but when I worked at the airport one of my coworkers from a fellow airline made a killer gumbo for potlucks and I always loved it.
I also love it at the local cajian food joint around here ... it's quite tasty

I visited New Orleans a few years ago and ate alllll the yummy local foods! The gumbo was tasty! I have never tried making it on my own.

I've never had gumbo at a potluck but I bet it was amazing!

How fun that you were able to visit New Orleans! I had the chance when I was in high school but I thought school and sports were more important so I stayed home. I'm wishing I'd gone!

I had gumbo at the World’s Fair in New Orleans in 1984 and it was absolutely delicious. ❤️❤️ I’ve tried it a few times later but nothing has ever come close to the flavor of that first bowl. Surprisingly, the others have been way too spicy! I’ve never tried to make it myself.

I lived in New Orleans for a year. I've tried gumbo but I don't really like it. I'm definitely not a fan of okra and I have weird issues with certain cooked veggies.

I love gumbo, but like so many others in the thread, I've never made it myself. That's kinda funny. I think I should go hunt down a recipe now. :giggle

I have never heard of gumbo, so I searched for a recipe, sounds delicious! Thank you so much @Karen for sharing the recipe, for sure I'm gonna give it a try.

What a great place to try your first gumbo! Fair food is the best!

It’s definitely not for everyone, especially if you don’t like cooked veggies.

I will, and I'm sure that I'm gonna take some pictures to scrap or at least for my looooooooooong lasting project of create an album with cooking recipes.

I've had it before also but never cooked it. I'm gonna check out recipes too!

I like Gumbo but prefer Crawfish Ettoufee! I have not made Gumbo from scratch, but have made Ettoufee when we lived on the Gulf Coast and could get fresh local seafood more easily. I had Gumbo in New Orleans on one of my visits there and it was amazing!

I love gumbo and it is a staple over here. My husband makes it better than me and makes a killer chicken and sausage gumbo that has all types of meats in it. I also love a good seafood gumbo.
