Calling All Challenge Enthusiasts! Join Our NBK Monotone Magic Challenge!
Ana Brown (Ann) here and I am thrilled to host this month's new NBK Challenge. Are you up for an inspiring challenge? If so, you're in the right place here with us!
Challenge Theme: Monotone Magic – Embrace the Charm of a Single Hue!
Challenge Task: craft a scrapbook layout using a single color scheme. Your layout must feature any paper and at least one mask of choice, adding depth and texture to your layout. Let your imagination explore colors and options, you can use various shades and tones of your chosen color palette to add dimension and depth to your images on a page.
How to Participate:
Color Palette: Select any color that resonates with your creative mood. Whether it's the beautiful blues of the ocean or the warm hues of sunset, or the oranges or blacks of a moody Halloween, let your chosen color speak through the layout. You can use any element as a mask as well with a clipping mask, you can use white and black also, you can use stamp images in black too what will be great for this challenge.
Photos: Feel free to include photos that complement your chosen color palette, but it's not mandatory. You can also craft a layout without photography focusing solely on the beauty of your design elements.
Techniques: Experiment with various scrapbooking techniques to enhance your layout. You can use a Saturation Layer to adjust the hues of elements ( with Image -> Adjustment -> Saturation layer in Photoshop), or experiment with blending modes, let your creativity shine!
Another suggestion: You can utilize in Photoshop the Gradient tool “G” if you like to use the “Classic Gradient” tool. I added below some step by step instructions about how to use the Gradient tool if you like to check it out.

Instructions guiding you through the process of using the Gradient Tool in Photoshop to change the color of specific elements in your design. Here's a breakdown of the steps:
Add a New Layer:
Start by creating a new layer in your Photoshop document. This new layer will be where you apply the gradient effect.
Select the Gradient Tool (Shortcut: "G"):
Choose the Gradient Tool from the toolbar (shortcut "G"). This tool allows you to create smooth color transitions.
Choose Your Favorite Color:
Select your favorite color using the Color Picker. You can do this by clicking on the foreground color in the toolbar and picking a color from the Color Picker dialog.
Click and Drag the Gradient Tool Over the Layer:
With the new layer selected, click and drag the Gradient Tool over the elements in your design that you want to change the color of. As you drag, the gradient effect will be applied to the elements.
Apply a Blending Mode:
After applying the gradient, change the blending mode of the layer. Common blending modes used for this effect are "Multiply" or "Screen" or others, experiment with them, or play around with different blending modes and adjust the opacity of the gradient layer to achieve the desired look. Blending modes like "Multiply" create a darkening effect, while "Screen" creates a brightening effect, allowing you to control the color interaction precisely.
Add a Clipping Mask:
To confine the gradient effect to specific elements and prevent it from spilling over, add a clipping mask. To do this, right-click on the gradient layer in the Layers panel and select "Create Clipping Mask". This will restrict the gradient effect to the elements on the layer directly below.
Using this technique, you can quickly bring a range of hues to different elements of your layouts.
