Do you prefer to drive or fly (or something else)?
Drive, if it's 12 hours or less. I am not a fan of flying since I have motion sickness.

What mode of transportation did you use to travel when you were growing up?
Driving. Each summer my dad would drive us up to Chicago to visit his parents and brothers.

What’s the longest drive you’ve taken?
22 hours from Colorado to Alabama. Never againnnn. We made 2 round trips in the past couple of years. (It was worth it though.)

What’s the longest flight you’ve taken?
3 hours

Most of the time, if we can drive there - we will. Flying is just too much hassle: endless waiting, and security controls and then more waiting, weight limitations… then there’s the cost of flying, of course…

We drive everywhere in Europe, to the mountains or sea… crossing a couple of countries in a few hours is no big deal, but of course it all depends on where one is going.

The longest car trip was 2,100 km that took about 28 hours of pure driving time and 49 hours in total. We left in the afternoon and took turns and napped while the other was driving through the first night, but we had to stop to get some proper rest after the first 24 hours on the road.

The longest flight - one of those transcontinental red-eye flights that last 13-14 hours…. Boooooring…..

That long drive sounds so intense! I can understand why you needed proper rest after 24 hours.

I don't like to drive more than about 4 or 5 hours at a stretch, but have done numerous 10 hour driving days over the years. But if time is short, usually I'd prefer to fly in order to spend more time at the destination.

What’s the longest drive you’ve taken? Longest straight through drive only stopping for gas, food, and bio breaks was Jacksonville Florida to Dallas Texas when I must have been in my young 20's. About 1000 miles - 15 hours not counting stops.
Longest drive with multiple stops Jacksonville Florida to Long Beach California about 2400 miles (this was to move across country after college graduation and getting married)

What’s the longest flight you’ve taken? I think the longest straight flight was London to Denver about 10 hours.

Both those long drives sound like too much for me. I hope I never move across country…

What’s the longest drive you’ve taken? In 2021, my cross country road trip totaled over 7,000 miles. It was a whirlwind 3 week trip.

I couldn’t remember when you took your cross country road trip. I can only imagine how much of a whirlwind it was. I don’t think I’d survive three weeks on the road.

Amen to being burnt out from running kids around. I can’t wait until my oldest can drive herself to her thousands of activities lol

Really depends how far- airports are such a time suck these days- I'd prefer to drive if it's not too far & just get there.
I do really like to fly- but just not always feasible, as it doesn't cost us much to drive since we have electric vehicles.

We drove everywhere- all over the western United States pretty much

What’s the longest drive you’ve taken?
This summer we did a long drive to Utah & Colorado (from Washington State) for softball tourneys! We also did a giant road trip back in 2018 up into British Columbia, lake louise/banff, Calgary then down to the Canadian side of Glacier National park and then home through Glacier National Park in Montana.

What’s the longest flight you’ve taken?
Longest has really only been a few hours- maybe a lay over in texas or something.

Drive - I enjoy driving for the most part. Flying is more of a hassle just getting to the airport, security, and I get so nervous if I have to check any luggage!

We always drove - we never traveled much, I only went out of state once as kid

I drove across the country when I moved from Utah to Philadelphia

What’s the longest flight you’ve taken?
Salt Lake City to Dublin was about 12 hours.
I actually just booked a flight from San Francisco to Sao Paulo that will be about 16 hours - kind of dreading it but very excited to visit Brasil!

Driving from Colorado to Alabama sounds terrible! I’m glad it was worth it at least.

It would have to be longer than a 6-hour drive to make it worth it for us. Just because our airport is so far away.
But I do love flying!

I never rode on a commercial flight until I was an adult. My dad had a little cessna plane that we flew around.
We drove all over. From FL to MN, from FL to Wyoming, etc.

As a child, we took a trip out west. We started in FL, went north to MN, then out west to Wyoming, Colorado, etc. then back home. We camped most of the way. I'm not sure how many miles it was.

From Chicago to Beijing! That was a 14-hour flight I think. But the total travel time from leaving our house to getting there was almost 30 hours!

I never thought about the airport distance being a factor. Good point!
 
Do you prefer to drive or fly (or something else)?
If it’s in Sweden and less than 6 hours we often drive, but train is the easiest way to travel here and we use it a lot even for shorter trips. If we travel abroad, we often fly if it’s not in the Northern Europe, then we drive.

What mode of transportation did you use to travel when you were growing up?
Car. The longest ride as a kid was to my grandmother 600 km away.

What’s the longest drive you’ve taken? We went by bus to northern Italy when we finished high school, it took 22 hours. I’m glad I didn’t have to drive!

What’s the longest flight you’ve taken? It was from Copenhagen to Phoenix. I think it took 18-20 hours.

What mode of transportation did you use to travel when you were growing up? Cars and planes. I would fly between South Africa and Germany to spend time with both halves of the family.
What’s the longest drive you’ve taken? Cape Town to Johannesburg 14 hr 32 min (1 397,8 km) return
What’s the longest flight you’ve taken? San Francisco - Dubai 16 hours non stop, but we flew on to Cape Town a further 7 hours.

Hmmm... I think nowadays I'd prefer to drive. Flying just takes so much extra time and I'm usually exhausted by the end of it. Lol. Although, flying usually means I'm going somewhere really fun for vacation, so that is fun too!

We always drove. There was no money for flying anywhere! :giggle

In high school we took a bus trip from Michigan to Florida to Disneyworld twice. It took 24 hours straight through!

My hubby and I went to St. Kitts to visit his sister who was going to vet school there. (From Michigan)

Drive - 100%! I'm weird that way, I know!
What mode of transportation did you use to travel when you were growing up?
We drove. Always. I had my first plane ride as an infant in arms, and my second plane ride at 12. All the trips and moves were always driving back and forth across the US.
What’s the longest drive you’ve taken? Miles? Or time? Miles one way: We moved from Aylmer, Ontario to Maple Ridge British Columbia and stopped in Utah on the way. That was 2798 miles, and probably the longest single direction (yes, I had to google map a couple of long distance moves).
But our 2019 Epic Road Trip was longer. Las Vegas to London, Ontario via Boston and NYC and Vermont and Niagara Falls, etc and home again. I think we clocked over 5000 miles on that in 3 weeks?
What’s the longest flight you’ve taken? Without the delays? about 5 hours. With delays? about a day.

I guess it depends on what for and where. I love to fly but with so many delays and cancellations these days, if it's important and drivable, then that's what we do.

We never travelled when I was a kid, which is probably why I can't get enough of it now!

I think it was probably when we moved from New Mexico to Virginia. We also stopped in Indiana along the way to pass off the kids to grandma and grandpa so it was a little bit out of route. I don't want to do that drive again anytime soon!

What’s the longest flight you’ve taken?

I think when we flew from WI to HI last summer? Or maybe the IL to Paris flight? I don't handle long flights like that too well anymore with my achy old back. Lol... thank heavens for Diclofenac!
