My daughter just finished up her most recent softball season, which means I also just finished up my very first season as a softball coach. And boy, am I glad to be done! I would rather be playing myself or watching her play; I did not enjoy the stress of coaching her team. The things we do for our loved ones…

What is something you’ve finished recently? It could be as simple as a meal or a task or even a project of some sort. It always feels good to get something done.

I finished a heritage book of my side of the family. It was a huge project but I was so lucky that we had avid photographers way back when. My father's family was dirt poor and lived in a sod house in Nebraska (1906), but they did get two photos of the early years of their 10 children. I mean wow!!

Hmmm... the first thing that comes to mind is that last weekend I finished an all weekend volunteer job with our city's art fair. It's humongous! We had almost 23,000 people who bought tickets to attend the art fair. I lead a tiny portion of the 400 volunteers for that and it's super fun. We just had our debrief meeting yesterday at lunch. So that is finished until we start planning for next year!

@umyesh Good for you, for coaching! I always admire people who can take charge and do that. It's not a skill set that I possess and I'm sure your daughter loved that you were the coach!

@Iowan That sounds like quite a project and how cool that they were able to get a photo of all 10 children (and were able to HAVE 10 children!)

Lots of children was not unusual in those times. My grandmother that was born in 1902 was the oldest of 15. Her parents had 2 and her father and his second wife had 13. Then my grandmother had 17 children of her own. I've got multiple families in my ancestry that had 8 or more children even in the 1800's. Now having large families in the last half century is not the norm.

Now as for finishing something recently... I have finished extracting 2 of the 4 sections of the official records of my church for a history project my cousin and I are working on. Marriages and Deaths from 1886 to current are extracted.

What a wonderful project to finish! That’s very lucky to have those photos.

Lol... I've just finished my first cup of coffee for the day and am thinking of making myself another.... no coffee - no morning is the rule I live by.
Lol I like your rule! I try to start my morning with water so I stay hydrated.

That’s a big volunteer job Karen! Good work!

Good job getting those records extracted! I hope the remaining two sections go well for you.

I just finished rejoining Planet Fitness gym. I quit in April because warm brighter mornings were returning and I prefer walking outside. Ever since, they've been begging me to return via emails sent like every week or two with various "deals." I was always planning to return in October, the same month I started last year, when the mornings start to get cold and sunrise too late to fit walks in before work.

Well, they finally offered an actually good deal. I only had to pay $1 today and they won't start charging me the monthly payment, nor even the annual fee, until January. Of course, the catch is it comes with a 12 month commitment, but since I enjoyed the gym over the cold half of the year and missed it slightly this summer, even before I received this email I was considering rejoining it sooner and not quitting next summer. I haven't missed the treadmill -- my hikes and many walks around town are vastly better! -- but I do miss working on the machines, especially for my arms. I don't seem to want to move my arms vigorously and carry weights while I'm on my walks/hikes. :lol2 Plus, the gym (even the treadmill) is great to have on rainy days. Here in Virginia, we get a lot of rain!

So, that is done! Just before I came to visit TLP, I rejoined Planet Fitness via their website and made sure the app, which I use to check in the gym, is functioning properly. I'm actually kind of excited about going back!

What a treasure! I also have relatives who came from Nebraska, just slightly later than yours by about a decade. My mom's mom's mom (my great grandmother) and her husband and my grandma's older siblings moved from Hastings, NE to San Diego. A few years later, in 1923, my grandmother was born (a surprise late in life baby in a family with just a bit fewer than 10 kids, and even fewer who survived childhood), and my mom was born there in 1947. I felt a little bad breaking the chain as a third generation native San Diegan when I left in 2000.

I’m glad you got a good deal to go back Michele!

I got 2 rooms of my house purged in the last week or so! It's a great feeling!! Now if I could just motivate myself to finish the summer professional development I'm supposed to do...:giggle

I just finished a scrapbook documenting my daughter's diagnosis and treatment of stomach cancer. Here's the link if anyone wants to see it. We're so glad that she is now cancer free. A little explanation - a seahorse doesn't have a stomach, so it is the symbol of those who have had a total gastrectomy. Periwinkle is the color of stomach cancer awareness.

What I thought was a small simple project actually turned out to be a small simple project -- I replaced my thermostat with an ecobee smart thermostat. I started and finished Friday morning!!!
