Kidney stones?

My littlest one hasn't been feeling well for a few days- complaining of pain. We've missed some school and yesterday ended up at Emerg with her (this is common in our small town - the only way to see a doctor urgently is to go to the ER). They did some testing and found blood in her urine and think she may have a kidney stone.

I didn't know that could be a thing for kids (she's 6). Anyone had any experience with kidney stones in kids? They're sending us for an ultrasound today to confirm.
 
I’m so sorry Trina. I haven’t heard of kidney stones in kids either but I hope you get answers quickly so she can feel better. Hugs!
 
How scary! I have never heard them that young, only older! Hoping all goes well, and she gets some relief soon! Keep us posted!
 
Oh, no! Never heard of a kid having them. Had one myself a couple of years ago. That pain beats everything. Hope she's better soon.
 
My hubby had one but not my kids so far. My son had blood in his urine once after an infection where he was taking a lot of Advil for a high fever. Doctor said it happened sometimes from the kidney irritation from the Advil and advised that he avoid it in the future.
 
I've never heard of kidney stones in a child. Man...how painful. Hope she's feeling better quickly!

I wonder if this is maybe a possible explanation - she had a fever on Friday and we gave her Advil throughout the day (she rarely gets sick so hasn’t had Tylenol or Advil in over a year I would say). They found blood in her urine and because of the pain they jumped to stones? I dunno - she had the ultrasound this am, now waiting on results.

I'm suffering a few kidney stones myself right now and have been throwing up uncontrolby since Sunday and been in intense pain literally screaming worse than labor pains.. and peeing every 5 mins.. and well.. my lady parts feel like they been through a meat grinder for lack of better words. .. so I truly hope that's not what your poor child is going through I don't wish this on my worst enemy. They gave me two weeks off work and I've been to hospital twice now to be pumped full of pain killers and sent home with strong ones and some anti nausea pills and I still can't keep anything down the pains so intense. I haven't barely slept in days

Oh no! You poor thing! I hope it passes quickly -- that sounds absolutely awful!

It was quite a while ago but I don't remember my son having any pain so it's good that they are continuing to figure out what it is.
 
Oh my goodness, bless her heart! Kidney stones are the worst! I seriously would rather give birth! I don't have any experience with them in kids but I sure hope she gets relief soon!!

@dotcomkari That pain is the absolute worst!! Sending thoughts and prayers that you get relief soon as well!!

Yikes!!!! I’m so sorry :( she is definitely not suffering like that!

The scan was clear, no kidney stones! So they’re guessing the blood is from a UTI.

Me too! Surprisingly we were able to get in for ultrasound, etc very quickly - this is not usually the case at the Red Deer Hospital! (I know you can understand my pain there being in Alberta!)
 
Oh my! Poor thing! I'm glad it wasn't a kidney stone. My hubby had one a few years ago and he was in so much pain he was puking! I am the worst at giving sympathy when he's sick because he always gets "the man flu" and insists his cold is worse than mine, but man, when he had that kidney stone even I felt bad for him! I hope her UTI clears up quickly.

@dotcomkari so sorry you are going through this.. hope the stone passes quickly and you feel better. shame they can't do a lithotripsy to break up stones.. big hugs ..

well, i'm glad to hear it's not stones, but i hate that she's had such a tough go lately! i hope she starts feeling much better soon!
