I know it’s hot in half the world right now, but DH wants a heated blanket so I need your help!

Have you ever used a heated blanket? What did you like/dislike about it? Did it wash well?

Have you ever bought a heated blanket? What brand/size was it? Was it worth the cost?

I have never used a heated blanket so I have no idea what to look for. The closest thing I’ve used is a heating pad, which I imagine is just a mini version of a heated blanket?

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!

I bought a king sized heated mattress pad for my hubby for christmas a few years ago and he loved it, but there was one thing I would definitely change... and did... I would definitely upgrade to the padded kind because the one I got, you could feel the wires through the fabric and it was kinda uncomfortable to sleep on. I also would definitely get one with two heater controls. I rarely used my side because I always get too hot when I'm sleeping. So this year for Christmas I bought a twin sized version, so my hubby can have heat on his side and I can just use my internal furnace (as my hubby says) Ha ha!

And I just re-read and saw you were asking about a heated blanket. Ha ha! I waffled between the two prior, and decided on the mattress pad because I was worried I'd get tangled in the cord if I used a blanket kind.

Well, it has been many years since I've used an electric blanket. I couldn't even tell you the brand and I'm sure they have changed in the last 25 to 30 years. I probably had 2 or 3 of them over the years (maybe a 30 year period). The control plugged in and could be taken out to wash it. At that time, it was made of the same fabric as most blankets. The actual blanket was not heavy and I even kept it on the bed during the summer just disconnecting the controls.

I would turn it on about 10 minutes before going to bed to warm up the bed. Then I would turn it on low when I got in and I stayed nice and warm all night long.

An electric blanket would just make the hot flashes that much worse in the middle of the night these days. The joys of getting older!

I had one, but 50+ years ago. Got it for Christmas one year as a teen. Loved the warmth, but was scared too death I'd bend one of the wires and electrocute myself (I read the cautions, lol). I used it for years though w/o any issues.

I bought a heated mattress pad a couple of year ago. I liked it at first, but then it stopped warming the bottom where I needed the heat.

I didn’t even know heated mattresses exist so thanks for all the info!

I always worry about cords too. I wonder if there are any cordless options…

That’s nice your old one could be used throughout the year. I also love your heating method; it sounds like it worked perfectly!

I’m always worried about the fire hazard of electric blankets; I never even thought about electrocution! I’m glad you had no issues in that regard.

I have one and it is in my linen closet.. when I was younger (in my 20's) my parents bought it for me for Christmas as I wanted one. I also had flannel sheets. Now, there is no way I can use it.. My internal summers are enough.

I keep it up in the linen closet. I figure if I am not feeling well I can always pull it out and use it like a heating pad, but that hasn't happened in the 30 years it has been in the closet LOL.

My suggestion though is unplug it from the wall when you are not using it while in bed or heating up the bed before climbing in. I never put anything heavy on top of the electric blanket either, for worry about bending wires.

I never worried re electrocution.. I am more of a fire worrier. I never keep my cell phone or laptop near the bed either.

Now if a cooling blanket really worked... LOL

I have one! I use it! lol It gets COLD! Hence, my Brrrrr page, haha!

So, I use it from time to time. We have a colder family area, and I have a space heater. I also live with 3 boys, whose body temperatures are so much warmer than mine. So, we keep the house pretty cool. Then my space heater comes out, and when it gets really chilly I pull out the heated blanket. It has three settings. I only use it a handful of times each winter... and I'm sitting on the couch reading or watching TV... so I haven't washed it. I think I'm just able to unplug and wash. Air dry. I love it! I have also used it in the winter for an afternoon nap. :P

I have a couple of cheaper heated throws that we use on the couch when watching tv or napping, but as others have said, my internal heater keeps me warm at night lol. The ones I have are ok, but they don't last long. It seems like I get a season out of them and then they don't work anymore.

I haven't used one in years. It normally doesn't get cold enough for them. I have tons and throws and love them.
