I love one hit wonders! A lot of times I will ask Alexa to play a one hit wonders playlist or search them on Spotify or YouTube.

Some of my favs are:
Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners
Take on Me by A-ha
My Sharona by The Knack
and there are a bunch of others

Do you have a favorite One Hit Wonder??

But what is a one hit wonder? Different people have different interpretations of the term. I for one think any individual or group that has continued with their musical career but maybe not having other chart topping songs should not be known for having that one song that was a chart topper. On your list, The Knack is that group IMO (don't know the others, sorry). They released more than one album and had 3 songs that hit the Billboard Top 100 during their career. Yes, "My Sharona" was the biggest hit but IMO "Good Girls Don't" and "Your Number or Your Name" (also on the album with "My Sharona") are good songs. I like to groove to them ;)

As I was reading a list on Wikipedia of one hit wonders throughout the years (1950's to current), 1 stood out to me as a real one-hit wonder. That would be "The Super Bowl Shuffle" by the 1985 Chicago Bears football team.

The one that came to my mind from your title was B**** by Meredith Brooks haha I have no idea if she has other songs but that’s the only one I know.

I’ve never tried a one hit wonder playlist but now I really want to!

Absolutely!!! You Only Get What You Give by The New Radicals. That song was SO hot for about 15 minutes and it became one of my "theme songs". They were from Detroit (where we lived and loved) and that made it even more special. It's often called "Don't Give Up".

I get it! There are a few bands that I really liked a lot of their music, but they really only had one "hit" song, so I guess it more has to do with widely popular hit songs. And yes!! I remember The Super Bowl Shuffle, so fun! We were just talking about it at work the other day!

Oh My Gosh, YES!! I always tell people that is my theme song :) I love it!!

Love, love, love that one!! That's a great jam!!

I loved Big, Big Girl by Emilia.. I think that's what it's called. "I'm a big, big girl in a big, big world..." It's such a simple song yet lovely.

There are sooo many.

What's Up? - 4 Non Blondes
99 Luftballons - Nena
Barbie Girl - Aqua
Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
Mmm mmm mmm mmm - Crash Test Dummies
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Don't Worry Be Happy - Bobby McFarrin
Funky Town - Lipps. Inc
I Touch Myself - Divinyls
Turning Japanese - Vapors
Pop Muzik - M

Oh, and a one hit wonder doesn't mean the band/artist hasn't made any more music at all. It's just that they never lived up to that success again. Like say Madonna, Michael Jackson and so on that has had hit after hit after hit.

Oh my, this could turn into quite a rabbit hole if I let it . . . A couple that came to mind pretty quick for me

Rock n Roll - Gary Glitter
Big Country - Big Country

I must try that one hit wonders playlist. I bet there are some fun memories there.

I'll admit to Googling these, although I have several of them on 45s from the 70s ...

1970s:
"Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" by Looking Glass
"O-o-h Child" by Five Stairsteps
"Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede
"You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone
"Stuck in the Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel
"Rock the Boat" by The Hues Corporation

The 60s and 70s were filled with one hit wonders!

Yep, sure were a lot of them back then! And, I loved a lot of them. LOL

The best one-hit-wonder of them all - Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley!
I’m going to have to disagree. He had that other song that did pretty well called something like She Wants to dance with me. Although never gonna give you up was better!
