Books | Pad Patter 9.1.22

I like reading on my Kindle, but I really love a physical book! I cannot do audio books, my mind just wanders way too much if I'm not focused on reading the words!

Paper books for sure! I can read them on an e device if I have to but I prefer not to. I can't do audio books. I don't listen to podcasts, I don't like online videos. Mostly, I get distracted when trying to listen and think how much faster I could read this myself if you would just write it down or give me the transcript! LOL

I’m trying to convert fully to e-books, but I still prefer physical books for poetry and cookbooks. I love the whispersync function on the kindle, so I can read and listen to the audio version alternately if I’m driving.

All- but I've REALLY gotten into audiobooks the last few years. I feel like I can read/listen WAY more than with real or e-books. I listen while doing chores- laundry, floors, etc. I listen while scrapping & sometimes even in the car. This year I've listened to 101 books- almost all borrowed from the library! I've read maybe only 2 real books this year lol!

**edited to add- the trick that made audiobooks WORK for me- listen at a faster speed- I listen to everything at 1.5x speed. It's a game changer!

I wish I could read fast like you!

I didn’t know about whispersync; I need to check that out ASAP!

You stole my words! I completely agree.

Oh my word! I can't understand many people at normal speed, can't imagine what 1.5x speed would be like. Some people sound like the "wah wah wah" sound from Charlie Brown when talking normally for me!

Awe that's too bad! Normal speed is just SOOOOO SLOOOOOOOW and then I get distracted! lol!

Yeah, that's why I can't do audio books. I love college football but I'm to the point that when I watch a game, I turn the sound down really low. In so many of those large stadiums, the crowd noise is so noticeable since the announcers are not behind a glass window. Because of the crowd noise, I can't understand the announcers. One thing about college football during the pandemic with no crowds in the stands... I could hear the announcers!

Paper books! I enjoy listening to audiobooks on a long car ride or while running. I'm not a fan of e-books but I have read a few on our kindle. I love to hold the book in my hand, mark pages, and then if there's a quote or something I want to remember I tend to know exactly where to turn in the book.

I've got thousands of books in my house - hardcovers & paperbacks and several thousand e-books as well. You might have noticed that I have a thing for books BUT no audiobooks! I want to see the words and appreciate the author's facility in writing especially when I'm reading a book to discuss at a book club.

The one thing I don’t like about audiobooks is not being able to mark quotes that stand out to me.

Your book collection sounds awesome! My neighbor has her own personal library and I’m so jealous.

I used to listen to a lot more books, especially while I was at work, but my work has changed a lot in that I have to pay more attention to exactly what I'm doing step by step and I can't focus on the book enough to catch what's going on. Lol I miss that!

So, I mostly read e-books now because I get borrow them for free from my library. I'm currently reading a paper book right now because that's all my library had and I'm kind of annoyed by it. I mostly read in bed before I go to sleep and the light being on annoys my hubby (because I read too late) :giggle So, that's why I prefer my Kindle. That I can read it from anywhere. I never have to remember to bring my book with me. If I'm stuck somewhere in the car waiting for a kid or whatever, I can read on the Kindle app and it'll remember where I was on my actual Kindle. That is SO handy!

I get annoyed with paper books too haha glad I’m not the only one!

It is harder, but I've paused an audiobook to hit the rewind button a few times to copy down a quote I liked a lot.

Audio books read so slowly for me. I'd rather read it on my own. I'm a super fast reader and enjoy "real" books but I do read several books on a device per year.
