Food Trucks | Pad Patter 6.26

It seems like maybe we talked about this once, but I'm far too lazy today to go and look, so I'll just bring it up again
We have a thing in town every year called the Food Truck Frenzy and Festival. It's basically outdoor music all day and all the food trucks come and set up in this one parking lot. Chance and I went last night and enjoyed tacos, funnel cakes, and ice cream. I really wanted to try the Asian food (their name was Bite Mi ), and the BBQ smelled amazing, but I just couldn't eat it all lol. For those that remember the 90's, the headliners for music were The Nixons, Fastball, and Everclear.

Oh how fun that sounds, Jan!! Whenever there's a festival around here, there are lost of food trucks. I think they're the most fun and I wish there were more just hanging around.

I WISH!!!! We don't get to enjoy them unless we move to a bigger city. A few years back, hubster and I were planning to have one of our own. We love to cook, and love ethnic foods. Since Indian, Turkish, and Asian foods share similar ingredients, we decided upon New Deli as the name. But the plan was based upon funds from the V.A. and we have since learned how sssssssssssssssssssllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwww they are at processing!!! LOL! We drove to Hotlanta a few years ago for the sole purpose of attending a Food Truck rally! It was hot but we had a blast!!!!!

My mom and I were just talking about how seldom we see them just randomly around town. I think they would go over great if they set up in more places more often. Every now and then I'll see a BBQ one pop up, but I really only see them at festivals.

Living in a small town, there aren't a whole lot but my town and the other small towns are trying to promote having them at various festivals (which there are a lot around here).

The local V.F.W. has had trouble getting and keeping kitchen employees since the pandemic. A kitchen that used to be open from 1 p.m. til closing at 11 p.m. 7 days a week is now only open 4 days a week from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Wednesday they decided to have food trucks come and set up in the parking lot for those hours. This past Wednesday the truck scheduled let them know that morning that they wouldn't be coming. They weren't the first ones to cancel either. Not saying they didn't have a legitimate reason but if they want to grow their business cancelling on the day of is not a good look. For the 5 Wednesdays in June, 1 specific truck is there for 3 of them. I've heard good things about that truck. Apparently they set up every 2 to 3 weeks and have good business when they do.

I'm not even sure if food trucks are a thing in the city of 40,000 just 15 miles from me.

We have food trucks at different places. There's one that's a permanent fixture at a local antique mall about 5 minutes away from me.

There are a couple of street taco places around Pensacola as well. I haven't eaten there, but Jay and Olivia have.

In downtown Pensacola, there's actually a place called The Garden which has airstreams and tons of vendors with outdoor seating.

I generally prefer to eat in air conditioning. I get nauseated if I get too hot. I love the idea of this, but for me to go, we would have to go in the off season.

Yeah, a restaurant in town closed down last month. I worked there in 1971. And, it was located right off of I-75 and at the start of the pandemic, offered meals to truckers when so much was shut down. They would deliver the meals right to the truck since the dining room was not allowed to be open. At the end, they had 5 employees... the 2 owners and 3 others so were only open for lunch. We have no 24 hour fast food joints anymore although some of them were having trouble keeping employees before the pandemic.

Although food service is not the only industry that can't get employees. My chiropractor's office hasn't had a receptionist for about 18 months. The 2 girls came back when they could have their employees on site again but one left not long after because of the extra benefits from the state. The other long time girl ended up with medical issues and can no longer work. So the husband/wife are doing it all. Checking people in and working on the patients.

Even the factories in this area are begging for help.

I love food trucks! We have a place in Cyberjaya that is allocated specifically for food trucks called "Tapak" and it's open daily from 6pm until midnight. There's western food, Asian food, Italian food and more. Lots of varieties of drinks too. I've only been there twice or thrice though because of its opening hours (I rarely go out at night for dinner - we usually eat at home). Besides, my toddler sleeps early in the evening so it's not suitable with our routine.

My favourite food there are Asian and Western food (e.g. fries, cheesy stuff that I can't recall the name). I guess I should go there more to explore! Oh maybe not, because some of the food trucks are available in food delivery apps so I could just order online.

It's like that here as well. It seems everyone is hiring, and when they do get people they don't hang around long. I feel like everywhere I go, they are always apologizing for the wait because of being short staffed.

I haven't seen any in our little city. Back on the west coast (Vancouver area) we had food trucks all over the place. A fave spot was in the parking lot of a sports arena and they had a truck with the best mac and cheese, it was so decadent and full of different cheeses. I have been eating a specialized diet for many years (keto, vegetarian and now back to low carb) so many food truck menus were not on my plan. Nowadays I don't eat out much so although I miss the food trucks, I probably wouldn't frequent them much here now anyway.

I'm a weirdo. I'm always afraid of eating out of a food truck. It may have come from the fact that they used to come to my dad's work and he would always yell out to the guys "The garbage wagon is here!!"

I live a few miles outside of a small town that has a Greek food truck stop by every Wednesday. Called The Olive Branch. They have a really good falafel platter, with a Greek salad that is my goto. I don't eat meat, but DH does. He likes their gyros.

I see food trucks driving around here all the time but I never see them parked anywhere.
That being said I have eaten from food trucks a few times in Chicago. Once when we went to Go Fest there were lots of food trucks and I had a brat with kraut.

I also had a burrito one night at around 1am because my sister thought I had too much to drink and needed to eat something. That was a delicious burrito, lol
