That's not Poutine AKA mislabeled.

@Memaw2Wm I have a homemade 'catalina' recipe that goes with it. We usually end up tossing a bit, but I feel less guilty than tossing most of a bottle which is what would normally happen! I hate having to find hard dressings like creamy italian and such. It's always a workout!

My nephew has his own apartment for the first time and invited me over for dinner. He was going to make his Blue Cheese Buffalo Chicken Pizza which everyone in the family has raved about. Since I DESPISE blue cheese and can smell/taste it at a molecular level, he also agreed to make pepperoni if I agreed to try the blue cheese one. Guess what? The blue cheese pizza was amazing! He uses Marie's blue cheese dressing and I seriously believe it has no real blue cheese in it. :lol

I have ordered poutine before that was not what it should be. Was so diassapointed...it was pretty much cheese fries (with melted cheese...ummmm NO) and something that I was shocked they considered a gravy :cornfused It wasn't ranch but it most definitely was not gravy. :thumbsdowns

This reminds me of when I was going to college in Minnesota. I went to the coffee shop to order a burger and there were two options: hamburger and California burger. I asked what the difference was. The hamburger was a meat patty on a plain bun. The California burger had cheese, tomato, lettuce, ketchup and mustard. When I exclaimed that was just a normal hamburger he asked where I was from: California. He just rolled his eyes and went on to help the next person.

OMG, almost died reading this. LOL!!!!!

I had Yorkshire Puddings once in a restaurant and when they arrived they were definitely not. When I told the server they weren't he argued with me, I explained both my parents are from Yorkshire and I ate them every Sunday with roast beef growing up. :)

I love it when they argue with you!

I thought that was what grits is "a big lump of unseasoned yuck", so it's not?

Oh, no! Definitely not. I love cheese grits the best. My mom makes Nassau grits, which have a tomato base with onions, bell peppers and sausage that's awesome. I love shrimp and grits, too, and will get those if I'm out and those are usually not a big lump. But regular grits, buttered or cheese grits, restaurants can't seem to make them like we do at home.

I would try it if I knew it didn't have blue cheese. I can smell blue cheese on the table next or across from us , yuck.

OMG. I had some poutine off course on the other side of the border with pastrami on top, I thought it was the best thing I have eaten in ages. The line of the place was out the door during WINTER time in CANADA and it was worth it!

I ordered grits twice and gave up because I couldn't understand why people ate "that". hmmmm....

To me, the shocker was American COFFEE (waterdown coffee). Why? Why can you see through your black coffee? When you pour coffee into a cup, you should never see through the liquid. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh yes, real poutine it has be cheese curds, not shredded and a thick gravy. I can't even look at poutine, lol.

me neither! I must Google it ! @jaye

Yorkshire pudding is just a baked pudding made from a batter of eggs, flour, and milk or water. It's a very common English side dish. Like I said, we had it every Sunday with roast beef. . . . mom still does it every Sunday for her and my dad. I don't make them, lol.

To enjoy a little Mardi Gras festivity this past Tues I made shrimp & grits and jambalaya. Sooo good! Cheesy grits are my favorite way to eat them, your mom's Nassau grits sound amazing! I didn't get around to testing any GF beignets, but we enjoyed some Cafe du Monde coffee with breakfast. NOLA was definitely a highlight of living in southern MS for 5 yrs.

I heartily agree! If you can see the bottom of the mug then it's not strong enough! I do my coffee with no sugar, so it's got to be good coffee for me to drink it and definitely not weak!

Nassau grits originated in a breakfast place called The Coffee Cup in Pensacola, FL. Here's an article from The Sun Sentinel in 1989 (so beware of some of the slang included). And here's a copycat recipe at Food Hussy. I can confirm that these are even better the next day. They heat up remarkably well.
