Who's in the path of Brood X?

It looks like my corner of NJ is safe. Let's see if that stays true. What map are you all using to look? I want to check multiple ones, lol!

We usually gets some usually, but the sound is tolerable. I remember everyone in an uproar about the loud ones 17 years ago (or 13?), but don't really remember them being that much an issue. So, maybe I'm in the safe zone?

This is the bug that people wrapped their trees to stop them from going to the top to ring out their mating call, right?

Yes, it is. They eat the tender shoots of trees and certain shrubs. I actually read one botanist who said it's the way nature "naturally" trims our trees. We don't have any trees, so I'm not worried about it.

And I hope you're out of the path! Their roar is what's most insane. It doesn't even ebb - it's constant.
 
None here in my part of Wisconsin. And apparently we timed our 9-year stay in Memphis just right - moved in after one bloom and out before the next.
 
We are. I remember them being a thing in 2004, but they didn't make much of an impression on me. I'm thinking it was because I was an exhausted first time mom with a 6 month old who still slept terribly, and I wasn't paying much attention to anything outside the walls of my house! In early June I'm working at an outdoor preschool camp. This should be interesting, especially if a few of our bug-phobic little ones attend! (And on the other extreme, we'll have some who are absolutely fascinated and looking for them constantly!)

I'm going to go ask some friends and maybe the town group about it. We have A LOT of HUGE trees. Like one that DH and I cannot both put our arms around. Plus, another 8 more over 50ft trees. I hope it's not bad by us. Fingers Crossed!
