Scrapping during house renovations - or not!

Has anyone ever tried scrapping during renovations? We're in the middle of getting work done in over half of the house and it's not easy. Today I needed to go with my contractor to pick out cabinets and granite, which took half the day. Everyone just left so now it's quiet, but it also means I need to juggle working around all the things I need to do before the contractors come back tomorrow. Obviously, I've yet to start a challenge page and I feel far behind. Funny! I should have my kitchen working in a week, and I can start putting things in the upper cabinets tomorrow. Thankfully we were on vacation for two weeks of the project. We're literally down to one working bathroom out of four, two working faucets, and we can find our beds. Everywhere else is storage or being worked on. But I'll be thrilled once it's done!

Is anyone else unnecessarily distracted so far this MOC?
 
Just plain living during renovations is hard! Believe me, I remember those days... 4 years before I started scrapping.

If you're on a laptop, I'd head out for an hour or so just to escape the noise, the dust, the confusion, etc. You can plan before you go and get the basics ready to work outside the house. Good luck!
 
Oh goodness!! I have not great words of advice for you, but good luck! I hope you have some peaceful quiet times during the process!
 
I don't handle my home being out of sorts, so first, congrats for remaining sane through the process. Second, if you still have quiet time, I'd sit in front of the computer for an hour and scrap as much as you can. After that, get up and do what you need to do for the workers tomorrow. Just my two cents!

I understand this! I scrap on a desktop too. I will not have access to my desktop for almost 2 1/2 weeks this month.... but well worth it. I will be flying to where my daughter lives as she is expecting her second. I will be the one to watch my granddaughter while her brother is being born. Im getting so excited see them again as I haven’t had my arms around her since May.

Honestly, I would need the hour to just sit and scrap or I'd go crazy!

As to distractions? My stinkin' teachers are already emailing me. My semester doesn't start until next week! :bat
 
I just found out that we'll need to be out of the house for a few days while we have the hardwood floors done on the main floor (and again when we have them done on the second floor). EEk! I'm going to insist that I take my computer along with me, even though it will be a huge thing to move.

I'm going to try this... but I will need to run out to the granite place again and the tile shop tomorrow. There goes 3 hours easily.

Headphones sound good, except when they need something from me. And the master bathroom is the only one working - and my computer is in my room. I'm hoping they'll be able to install toilets in the two other bathrooms tomorrow. Oh, the joys!

And seriously? Couldn't they wait? Gaah. I'd be saying LEAVE ME ALONE! LOL!:faint2
 
I am currently living through something similar, but on a smaller scale. I started repainting my kitchen cabinets right before Christmas. I had from the 21st - Jan 1st off work (saved some vacation days and had several days given to us off for the holidays) so I thought it was the best time to get it done that fastest rather than drag it out for weeks when I'd only be able to work on it on the weekends. Anyway, I had stuff from the drawers and cabinets all OVER the house. I am almost done now and things are starting to go back in place finally. It's been driving my crazy to have my whole house in disarray! I should be able to finish painting the last 7 doors tonight and then I start repainting the walls. I am praying that I will finish that all this weekend.

Karen, I hope you get it all done soon! These things take way more time than we think they will, don't they? But it will all look amazing when it's all done!
 
That's what I keep telling myself! :giggle "it will be worth it, it will be worth it"
 
I was still able to use my computer during my kitchen/dining room renovation since it was in the office. But then, the reno was done in a week. When I had new flooring put in the office 6 months later, I did have to unplug the computer/modem/router but it was only down for 12 hours. It only took them 4 hours to do the flooring.

My issue during the kitchen reno was keeping an eye on the brand new to this house 9 week old puppy and making sure she didn't run out the door!
 
That would be tough. I remember working/scrapping while our house was being built. We moved into a tiny rental. I ended up only doing stuff late at night.

Right now my MIL is with us for a couple of weeks and it's got me all out of sorts. We get along well enough but it's always weird having someone in your space. Thankfully she's cooking for us all (I've learned to give up on this while she's he as she likes to cook and she's quite picky when it comes to her food). It is nice that she's cooking, but again, it's kind of weird not being in control of what we are eating. It's a good lesson for me to let go and being forced to not be in control. So I'm just doing what I can when I can and trying to be relaxed about it all.
 
We had 2 floors of our home get renovated over 4 months five years ago. Luckily the family room level was not being touched so that's where my computer moved to. I kept on scrapping to keep my sanity. On the plus side, we weren't doing the work ourselves other than painting and staining trim.
 
Quiltymom, We are also going through a remodel, but fortunately I can still get to my desk and scrapbook. Sometimes the noise gets to me and I have to leave the house. I love the weekends because they don't work then! I feel for you--just remember how wonderful it will be eventually!
 
Luckily MOC has my full attention (more or less)! I can't imagine the mayhem of having construction done. I feel for you and hope you get it done soon :beat

Thankfully my computer is in my room, one of the few not being worked on. Next week they'll start on our master bath, though, and that will be noisy! And I totally agree with the "we're not doing any of the work" bit. The reason we're doing the remodel is because the fix-it list was getting out of hand, and it just made sense to replace rather than continue to repari.

We can suffer together! lol! They aren't working today (Saturday), although they have other weeks, so it's nice to have the break. I'm going to try and get caught up on my layouts today while I can think!
 
I tried scrapping during moving and it really didn't work out, either. I'm so far behind and all I want to do is walk on the beach.
