I’m looking for recommendations for a new file sharing site. I’ve been using box.com for this but now they’re requiring everyone to register to use the site, even those who just want to download. So it’s time to find something new.

I really don’t want to use MediaFire because it’s just too annoying and in the past viruses have snuck through from “safe” downloads. Besides Dropbox, which service do you use, and why? Thanks!!!

I use flikr which just went to paid for certain size limitations, but I only use it for layouts so I am not anywhere near the limit & have been using it for years!

Since I back up and share all my images at Smugmug, I can use that. I can copy image URLs from galleries on my site that link back or DON'T link back to my site, my choice, and I can even make files downloadable for others if I want.

I use Flikr as well. It is free for up to 1,000 layouts. I just had to clear a bunch of mine out to stay under that limit for the free version. I don't need to pay for it since I only use it to share layouts with my teams. I'll just delete as I go.

Really? I'm so far over the limit that I can't even process it. And ticked, so I've been ignoring it.
The 1000 kills me!

You have Amazon Prime, right? That's where I back up my photos and some LOs (admittedly I am bad at remembering to back LOs up to Amazon but they're backed up to like 4 or 5 other places so I'm good). Having said that...I'm off to Amazon Prime Photos! :)

I use Amazon Prime for my photos, too!

I had to delete a crap ton in order to get under that 1,000 limit. I hated that but I refuse to pay for it. lol

I use DropBox, a paid account, and I love it for sharing file downloads. Is that what you're doing, or are you just needing a place to upload your layouts?

Same! I had to delete about 1000. UGH.
I just went back and started with the oldest.
I use it mainly for sharing with digiscrap groups there.

I've been using Imgur for file sharing since the whole photobucket thing and I really like it.

UPDATE: I should've said from the start that I needed something to upload zip files to. I convert templates for designers and I send the finished temps to them that way. @michelepixels - I also have SmugMug, but I haven't tried uploading zip files that way because I think it's just for photos and videos. I'll need to check.

I ended up sharing it by uploading to Google Drive. It worked like a dream.

Yes, I do. But I haven't looked into it yet!

I have the free DropBox, and I guess they grandfathered me into the system. A few weeks ago I couldn't grab the download code anymore, and when I sent the link to the upload no one can access the link without signing up! And it's for uploading zip files of converted templates...

Hmm....That's weird. I've shared files via Dropbox without requiring people to be signed up. There is a way. I've also worked with Designers who do that without requiring a signup.
Just in case, Dropbox is different than Box. Two different services.

I use Imgur to throw up sample layouts for designers, and designers send me links to Dropbox to download their stuff.

Doh! I meant Box.com. I get names mixed up all the time.

I paid for it because I've been a member since 2008 and have a TON of pictures on there. There wasn't any way I had the time or inclination to take my pictures down to 1,000. I used to be a Pro Member, then for years, they made it free, so I've never really had to pay. Flickr is my go-to backup since it almost instantly backs up any picture on any of my devices.

I use Dropbox. People can download without signing in but if you're doing file conversions for designers it seems like they probably have a DB account already?

Google Drive is a good idea I think. I’ve used it a couple times.

Yeah, I don’t think you can upload zipped files to SmugMug. However, if you upload the individual images and allow downloads, your recipient can choose to download individual files or the entire gallery, and SmugMug will send an email with the zipped files.
It is just images though; no other kinds of files.

I only use it when I have to share layouts that I can't upload early. I only have 599 on there, but will probably delete old ones as I go. I don't use it as a 'backup' source. Plus I've only used it after photobucket went kaput. :)
