January 14 : Clean & Simple with Texture (Style Challenge)

Hello and Happy MOC! We are almost to the half way point and I’m excited that it is my turn to host a challenge. Today’s challenge is something that I just love creating and can’t wait to see what you come up with. I’m a basic scrapper, preferring minimalism, so I adore clean and simple pages - especially clean and simple pages that have dimension and visual interest and texture! Things like stitching, cork, wood veneer, washi tape, gesso, and vellum really make these pages come alive and this style simply makes me happy!

Your challenge today is to create a clean & simple page that has texture as a focal point. Here are the requirements:

1 - At least 50% of your page must be empty space (i.e. clean space, white space, empty space).
2 - You need to choose one texture from the following list and have it be a prominent element on your page: stitching, cork, gesso/paint, wood veneer, washi tape, fabric, and vellum.

That's it! Here is the clean and simple with texture layout I created for this challenge:

I used Paislee Press' Here We Go, Amy Wolff's Mega Paper Pack, Sahin Designs Garden Party, Pink Reptile Designs Gesso It and Mommyish's Enjoy The Ride.

I hope you have fun creating, can't wait to see your clean and simple layout with texture, and cheers to all of us enjoying this year’s MOC!

To recap the requirements for this Clean & Simple with Texture challenge:
1 - At least 50% of your page must be empty space (i.e. clean space, white space, empty space).
2 - You need to choose one texture from the following list and have it be a prominent element on your page: stitching, cork, gesso/paint, wood veneer, washi tape, fabric, and vellum.

Remember these important points to qualify for the MOC prizes:
Your page must be a new page in order to count for the Month of Challenges.

Your page must be posted in three places:
1. Uploaded to the TLP Gallery (not an outside hosting site).
2. Posted in your page thread you created in the MOC Layouts Folder. You should have one post per completed challenge page. If you complete all 31 challenges, your thread should contain 31 posts. Please do not comment in the participants’ page threads so we can keep them clean.
3. Posted in this thread. People can comment here if they wish.

Pages must contain at least 75% current Lilypad product (currently for sale in the store from either permanent designers or guest designers).

***As a reminder, please remember that this is a clean & simple style challenge, so background paper choices should reflect that style. If the background patterns are busy, they overtake the page and the layout it is no longer clean and simple, and is not in the spirit of this challenge.

Solid papers, lightly textured, and minimalist designs are best suited to the clean & simple style. Thanks for playing along and challenging yourself to create a page that may be out of your comfort zone!***

Q: can my "white space" be a coloured paper?

A: Yes it can be a color. If patterned, it should be neutral or minimalist to keep with the clean and simple style.

Q: Do we have to use a photo?

A: No

Q: let's say that I choose paint to be the prominent element of my page, can I still use a stitch or washi tape on my photo?

A: Yes, you can add other textures. You just need to use one texture from my list as a prominent feature, and meet the 50% clean space requirement.

Q: In your sample page, do you consider the veneer heart or the gesso "prominent"? I'm just having a little bit of trouble understanding what you consider prominent. Thanks! =)

A: I actually consider the washi tape as prominent as it is a featured element that stands out. :)

By prominent, I'm looking for something that is readily noticeable and doesn't get lost in the layout. Hope that makes sense!
