prepping my ------------|pad patter 11.21

I always host both sides of the family, but this year my MIL and SIL went to NYC to watch the Macy's Day Parade and since my MIL is the main person for traditions we decided to go my my sister's for the weekend. We had our very first deep fried turkey and it was fantastic! I don't think that I can go back to the regular oven baked turkey.

That's the only way I like turkey - fried. We have a turkey fryer, but my hubby fries them and he hasn't wanted to mess with it for a couple of years. Most of us prefer ham anyway, so we just have that.
 
I haven't had a traditional Thanksgiving meal in more than 20 years. For a few years I would go to an aunt & uncle's house on Thanksgiving when they had their combination Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner. As the grandkids got involved in other activities, that changed to whenever they could get everybody together. One year it was on New Year's Eve. Thanksgiving just isn't a big holiday in my family any more. The big family gatherings we had went by the wayside as my cousins started getting married and having other families to consider. I would guess our last one was 30 years ago. After that it was just Mom, Dad & I until Mom passed away. Then Dad moved to NC.

Last year and today I spent the day with my 2nd cousin. Last year, it was just 2 weeks after her mother passed away. Not a big deal, just time together. This year I went to her house for a few hours and took my spaghetti with me. Due to oral surgery, I am unable to eat/chew many foods so couldn't have a traditional meal.

Hopefully next year I can have a traditional meal even if it is from Bob Evans!!! (That's what she got. She ordered a meal for 4 and will freeze a couple of them for later).
 
We started celebrating a few years ago, inspired by North Americans & Canadians and all that God is giving us...... our table is what it can be depending on the year, only once we did the Turkey thing.... yesterday we took my mum to the Gastro Pub where Sarita works, (this is where we took lovely @Juliestcyr when she was here for the second time! had such a great time then!!!!) which is a very English place with very English food. The decor is warm and beautiful, the people working there are (at least 99% of them) amazing, kind and professional, and the food is delightful! Is one of the most expensive pubs in the area as is in what people call the "posh part of Camden" LOL but she gets 20% OFF I think....
Anyway, I have to ask Sarita the names of what we had as I completely forgot now, but none of us had turkey.... but we had a great time!!!!! I'm hungry again now I saw your photos!!!!!!!
