Welcome to another edition of Why it Works, where we share and highlight a page from an awesome scrapper in our gallery that utilizes a really cool technique, a design trick, a photography tip, journaling ideas or any number of other things to get you scrapping outside your comfort zone. We hope to share and inspire you to try something new, revisit an old technique you may have forgotten about, or maybe just approach that blank canvas in a new way. So, here are some of the things you can do to be involved in this thread:

1. Ohhh and Ahhh over the awesome layout or project that has been highlighted and head over to the gallery and show the scrapper some love.
2. Learn something new from the tip or tutorial. It's all about becoming better at our craft!
3. Try the technique yourself and post it in this thread for us to see.
4. Show off other pages from the gallery that use the technique as well. Be sure to link them so we can give them the love they deserve!
5. Ask questions about the technique that you may have or tell us how you may do it differently.
There are many ways to do these things and this thread is all about the learning!

*note: this is not to be a critique of the page/project in any way, it's all about learning to emulate the awesome technique highlighted. Any negative comments about the highlighted page will be deleted.*

For this edition of Why it Works, I recently fell in love with this page by @dvhoward

I loved how she filled all those hexes with cardstock in a neutral ombre pattern! Very cool! Whenever I use a fun geometric template, I tend to alter and balance the patterns and colors across the page design. But how fun and creative is Diane's idea to add an ombre or color blocking twist to the page design? I love the transition of light to dark.

I gave it a quick try on a page with a mix of patterns and solid papers in one color: blue. So fun.

How fun would it be to approach this idea with a rainbow color scheme or some metallic papers? What about you? Have you done many ombre or color blocking designs on your layouts? If so ... link us up and show us what you've made! Or ... give this design idea a try on a future page and share it with us!

Ok, so not exactly ombre. I think it's really hard for me to put similar colors together. I have that need to contrast. But, I did it in a few spots on this page.

so pretty jess - the bits of ombre are so lovely with a soft color palette like this!

This is such a great Why It Works, as usual! :) What a great inspo page. Thanks @dvhoward for letting Jenn share it with us all! I can't wait to have some fun with ombre!

I do like what you have shared @jenn mccabe
Are there templates in the store with hexagons?

Designed by Soco just uploaded some I think a week ago. She has 4 more packages as you can tell by the name of the template package. LOL!!!

@A-M Here are a few fabulous Hexagon templates from our store:

Thanks @Dalis!

And searching the word "template" and Hexagon, Diamond, Geometric (or others shapes) gives good results to find even more.

Jenn @jenn mccabe - you're such an enabler. I had to go buy two of these sets last night. I think I'm definitely in the "Template Hoarder Category"! :faint2:giggle:giggle
Sorry! @A-M requested some template samples! :giggle
The geometric shaped templates are too fun not to have in your template collection though ... I can't wait to see what you make!

Oh! I love the ombre in the geometric shapes! I'm going to have to work this into my next page too!
