Do you have a mind for trivia? Do you collect apparently useless facts or go to trivia nights? If so, what's your favourite piece of trivia?

I wish my brain would remember more useful things, like what I walked into the study to get like 20mins ago, alas that was gone the second I got to the study and I still haven't fgured it out but I do seem to remember random, trivial stuff.
Like today, DD, for some reason, asked me if I knew whether the doll, Barbie had a last name. I didn't but I will probably now remember her name is Barbie Roberts for many years (short for Barbara obviously and her middle name's apparently Millicent - ?spelling because I'm going off a conversation).
And here's some bonus trivia on bats from reading with DS tonight. Some bats can pluck small fish from the sea and eat them as their preferred diet. Like I said, all things I didn't ever seek out or need to ever know and wonderfully useless!

Oh that's great info! I used to be know for knowing randomly useless information in college and when I'd rattle off some stupid fact, my roommate would yell at me and say "Great, now something useful had to be purged from my brain so I could store that dumb fact!" :giggle

I can't remember anything anymore though. We have trivia nights at our church and everyone always asks my hubby and I to join a team, but I'm so afraid that I won't be able to remember the answers fast enough and will end up looking dumb, so I don't ever go. Lol!

Oh yeah!! Know the feeling of walking into a room and totally forgetting what I was there for!! SO frustrating!!!

My husband and I say frequently that our daughter is going to be an awesome addition to a trivia team one day. She literally forgets NOTHING and numerous times a day fills me with knowledge- both useful and not. Some recent stuff I remember her telling me: Donald Duck’s middle name, the number of vertebrae in a giraffe’s neck, when the Hubble Telescope was sent into space, and the name of all the countries in Europe.

She loves to read and devours fact books and nonfiction as well as fiction, and that’s where she gets a lot of what she knows from. I cannot tell you how many lessons I have started in school where she has already known what I am trying to teach her. I’ve gotten better at checking before I make plans... but it still happens.

Not me, but my husband does. He's so much fun to listen to and play trivial pursuit with. :love

I can’t remember trivia anymore for the most part but here is the one piece of useless trivia that I recall:

Your front teeth are 1/16 the width of your face and inversely proportional to the shape of your face.

Nothing - I have nothing. My husband has to remember which movies I have seen.

Second son loves trivia, especially those random science facts. So we often hear about them.

I do collect trivia, although I can't just come out with it randomly -- I have to be prompted. I only know this because my kids ask me the most random questions and I almost always have an answer for them. LOL

Mine is old TV shows :) I have trivial pursuit game and that was always a favorite category!

I'm good with Disney movie trivia and most school subjects (especially science), but not sports. I used to love playing trivia games, but we haven't played any of those for years and years.

I love Trivia! I don't feel like I'm super great at it but it's still fun!

Random side note- Last Fall our dental office went to a training class in western WA (about 5 hrs away) and we all had dinner at this bar/grill. They had trivia that night so we figured we'd play along. One entire section was all dental related! Safe to say we won that one! :clappy

My mind used to be cluttered with useless knowledge, but I've seem to have forgotten it all with age LOL!
:giggle:giggle:giggle I'm in that category too. It's all still in there, I just have to work that hamster much harder to run up and down those aisles of files in my brain.

Right!! I could probably have the cops called on me for animal abuse because of how my poor hamster runs around all day!

<--- Safe to say that I might have some bits of trivia running around in my head. I usually can't recall it unless something else triggers the knowledge though. Doing a trivia contest or trying to play Trivial Pursuit and I go blank! I don't question where my son gets a love of trivia from. He's always sharing some tidbit (mostly he gets his facts from a kids National Geographic almanac).

My hubby and step son are very good remembering useless trivia... but I'm good at FRIENDS (the TV show) trivia! Lol! Does that count?

As soon as I read this, my brain was already answering "Roberts". I am so the queen of useless information. I am the person that people say "Ooh, call Jess, she'll know the answer!" Who sings Jenny 8675309? Who played Darren Stephens first? Just stupid stuff. I like to play 6 degrees of separation with my useless celebrity knowledge.

you are too funny!!

Over 20 years ago when I got on the internet (AOL anyone?), I joined some message boards for things that interested me. I've made long time friendships from doing that... spent Saturday scrapping with a girl I met on a Longaberger basket board! Anyways, one of the boards I joined was all about the soap opera "As The World Turns". I met some great gals there and we still have a group that stays in contact to this day. Somehow a trivia chat got started. Every Tuesday night. Usually about 20-25 questions. Whoever won was the host the next week. It seemed like another girl and I were usually the hosts! I had only been watching the show for about 15 years but the trivia I knew was unreal. I had a history book about the show (a real fan here... still have the book) and used it to get questions so I ended up learning a lot more. Alas, a lot of it has left me since the show is no longer on. Sad day for our group when it went off the air.

I forget everything that I need to remember, and remember those things I don't need to know. It's a big problem.
