Well written. It is often hard. My differently abled 43 year old believes she's got it all worked out until she doesn't. I've been berated each of the last three weeks for messing up or not flying to Baltimore to help her manage a totaled car, the purchase of a new car, her desire to exchange the new car for a different one (she was expecting an even exchange), and most recently, for not being able to interpret the words she used to supply the documents SSA wanted from her. Luckily I have a lawyer friend who adores her and helped with each of these issues to varying degrees.
Moms are never ready, but it's a good sign when THEY are ready. Means you've likely done a good job if it's not done with animosity. I know it's different for some kids, but they all want independence. Thanks for sharing the journey with us!

It's hard no matter what. ....but I think with our differently abled children, it can be even harder. We struggle with what she will actually realistically be able to do, versus what she sees her older brother doing. How to encourage her to fly without clipping her wings, and steer her towards places she CAN fly, versus being mad about the unattainable. ARGH. Mom to mom, I feel you. I'm glad your daughter has good support from friends. That's such a blessing.
