You're Still the One

It’s crazy to me that our first date was homecoming & the first song
we danced to was “You’re Still the One” - just by chance. Senior year of
high school in fall 1998, neither of us had plans for this to be some
serious thing, but the year went on and we couldn’t seem to get enough
of each other. Prom (May 1999) and we again danced to the song together,
both I think chuckled that it came on again. Then summer faded to fall, and college came. We both followed our plans and heart - spending the next years apart but together as much as we could. I knew freshmen year of college that you were the one, that was it, I was madly in love. We got married in June 2003 and our first dance was of course to “You’re Still the One” because it was our song by then, probably not your favorite (you’ve never loved country music much) but the lyrics fit us perfect. June 2023 we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and I still feel like the lyrics are a perfect fit - “Looks like we made it Look how far we’ve come my baby, we mighta took the long way we knew we’d get there someday. They said ”I bet they'll never make it” But just look at us holding on We’re still together, still going strong.
