Why Me

When I received my cancer diagnosis in the summer of 2021, one of my closest friends was also diagnosed with the disease. He would be gone within the year. Shortly after I completed my radiation treatment, the wife of one of my long-time friends passed away due to the disease. And in October of 2022, my aunt died after a 2-year battle. My treatment started with radiation and pills. Then it progressed to chemotherapy by infusion with strong cancer-fighting drugs, which became increasingly painful to the extent that the regimen had to be cut short. But, in the summer of 2022 after a lengthy examination, I was told (much to the surprise of my doctors) that they could find no trace of cancer. WHY ME? Why am I still here? Simply put: the radiologist, “Dr. K”, and his team are, to my mind, the main reason. Their care of not only my body, but also my mind, gave me the positive outlook that got me through the chemotherapy and the feeling that THOSE doctors never talked to each other, rarely talked to me, and certainly never made me feel “cared for.”
