- JOURNALING: This year I added a colorful glass hummingbird feeder to the others I had. They hang right outside my office window so I can see them when I’m at the computer. Hummingbirds arrived at my feeders this year on May 2. But this is the first year I’ve got House Finches also trying to feed!!! What?! Actually, they appear to be going after the water in the “ant moats” – their beaks are too short to reach the sugar water – so I guess it’s OK. I’ve also seen a Golden Finch taking a sip. (Photos taken thru window screen.)
