It's not how long we held each other's hands
What matters is how well we loved each other
It's not how far we've traveled on our way
But what we found to say
It's not the springs we've see
But all the shades of green
It's not how long I held you in my arms
What matters is how sweet the years together
It's not how many summertimes
We have to give to fall
The early morning smiles
We wistfully recall
What matters most is that we loved at all
It's not how many summertimes
We have to give to fall
The laughter and the tears
We gratefully recall
What matters most is that we loved at all
Songwriters: Alan Bergman / Dave Grusin / Marilyn Bergman
Journaling: When I read the details of this challenge, I was reminded of a song that I thought would work as inspiration, so I went looking on the internet. I found this song, “What Matters Most”, by Alan & Marilyn Bergman and Dave Grusin (above). Once I heard it sung, I loved the richness of the images it conveyed. Turns out, this is NOT the song I originally was thinking about – that was “What Mattered Most”. While I love the lyrics of that song too, this new “find” resonates more with me. Funny how “what matters most” was the difference between “s” and “ed”…..

Love the photo and the painting details. How great that you now have two songs with similar themes that you can relate to and enjoy! Thanks for participating in the challenge.
