Description
For the Month of challenges at The Lilypad: January 26 – Tradition/Heritage (Journaling). Elements from Dawn Inskip, Little Butterfly Wings, Lynne-Marie, and Paula Kesselring, all from the February 2017 M3 kit and add-ons. The fonts are DJB Good for One Free... and bulkyRefuse Type. The poem is mine.

I realize this does not look like a heritage layout. This is not what I intended, but sometimes these pages take on a direction of their own. Like poems.

What Does Love Want?

Jays
are back
blue & flashy & loud
arguing
with ravens
all around town.
The beach
is littered with glass
sharp-edged
stones, broken
crockery
shells, rain
from a slate
sky.
Today I nearly swallowed
a lady bug.
It was harsh
& pungent
a bitter
taste on my tongue.
I walked
to the end
of the road, dogs
geese
the sea
a garden of huge cabbages, gulls
crying
on the water.
I came home wet and steaming.

I lived in Alaska from 1986-1993. One of my favorite places in Alaska is Tenakee Springs, a small fishing village one can visit only by air, via float plane, or by sea. There is nothing to do in Tenakee, as a visitor, but walk the single, short road, and sit in the community bath. Walk, bathe, read, sleep. Listen to the sea. Gather remnants from the beach.

This poem was written during and after one of those treasured visits.

How very pretty. I like all the brushwork and how you added the heart behind your poem. Thanks for taking the heritage challenge!!
