Online ESE Pre-K for a 3 year old is a level of torture I could never have imagined prior to it happening to us. This kit symbolizes everything I dreamed homeschooling would be (and gets used a lot for nature study).
I can't even! I am so sorry you had to go through that! What a mess it all was. Grateful my kids were all grown and out on their own, but the horror stories for parents and kids really get to me, especially since I had a kid on an IEP and I know that all day screen time would have been a disaster. Kudos to you for taking over. Love the stitched frames for pocket cards and the messy paints...reminds me of what a kid should be doing at three...playing with art supplies and bugs!
Oh gosh Brenda, I cannot even imagine either. It is one thing to sit in a classroom but behind a screen and not have physical interaction for a young child is horrid. Glad COVID protocols are a thing of the past. At least for Northern Children during the winter, instead of a snow day to have on line make sense for a day or two but this I can imagine the torture it would be for you and others. Glad you took over and got it sorted for your son. How wonderful for you to be homeschooling him and making sure he is thriving. Great job Brenda and wonderful page to document as well. I love the Momma Lioness in you Hugs!
Thank you all! I try not to dwell on what a disaster that was and focus on all the cool stuff we're doing together instead.
@cfile - about a year later, we learned that his immune system is a bit patchy (immunology explained that his B cells don't show up for school) so we're still masking, hand sanitizer as we get in the car, and canceling appointments if the provider even had a sick kid in the office. I'm so grateful that I can homeschool but it's somewhat isolating at times. I try to pick curricula that emphasize nature and getting outside; Wild Math assumes we're in the forest most days. I'm thinking I may discreetly put together a mini unit study on manatees for November so we can end it in Homosassa Springs State Park in the underwater viewing platform, face to face.
Brenda I homeschooled all four of mine for various reasons. It can be a lot, but after watching them grow to be independent adults / young adults who LOVE learning, I'm so thankful we did. If you ever need to vent / talk / bounce ideas off of someone who's been there done that, let me know! I have an IgA & IgG deficient kid who is quite healthy now because we homeschooled for so long!
As a mom, we take on our children's struggles as our own. And it doesn't end when they become adults! I love how you documented this important step in his life.
Good for you stepping up and taking things into your own hands! I can't imagine my four year old grandchildren sitting in front of a screen all day, let alone a three year old.
