Wedding Tradition MOC6

Journaling:
Being a girl that had been planning my wedding since I was five, I had a really hard time letting go of my idea of the perfect wedding and location. I wanted a beautiful fun and bright beach wedding with a Pirates of the Caribbean theme. We were going to rent out a house on the coast and walk from the house to the beach were our ceremony would take place. I had the invites figured out all old parchment and a wax stamp to seal them up (a POTC ring that Adam bought me at Disneyland when he proposed as a souvenir that I would stamp into the hot wax). We were going to have orange sorbet and blue bubblegum ice cream, not because we like the flavors (though I did like bubble gum ice cream at the time lol) but because those were our colors, Adam's fav color orange and mine blue. Bright and colorful very beachy wedding. A white tent and dance floor and some tiki lamps. A very simple food spread buffet style, fireworks (with a permit, a point I never reached in the process). I figured "it's a bit of a drive but then I know the people that come are here because they really want to be." All the time I'm making these plans and Adam says its fine, we got so far as to look at the house and then looked at the price of renting the white chairs and that;s about where it stopped. I had a budget and even though Adam said whatever I wanted would be fine (he was paying for our wedding solely by himself) I didn't feel right about spending that much money on one day. Eventually, when days and locations didn't fit we just scrapped the beach idea. In all honesty Adam never wanted the beach wedding I dreamed of, though he said it was fine, deep down it's not at all what he wanted. See, his family had a tradition, his grandparents were married at the church Adam had attended his entire life. After his grandparents, his parents were married there. He had mentioned this on numerous occasions during the planning process. And though I thought that was really cool it's not what I had dreamed of, so I just kind of brushed his comments off at the time. I slowly realized how important getting married at this church was to him, and that he was more than willing to forego his dreams of being married in the church and carrying on the tradition so that I could have my beach wedding. Well I decided it shouldn't just be my choice, it's not just my wedding. So we got married at this special church and carried on the family tradition. We were the first of the 3rd generation to marry here and have so far been followed by one cousin. I went so far as to carry on traditions that I even used my mother-in-law's ring bearer pillow as my own. Looking back now I'm really glad this is the wedding we had, it's so much more special than the other route would have been. I'm all about tradition and sentimental stuff. One of the best decisions I (and by "I" I mean my husband and I lol) ever made.
ah, ah, the wedding planner-great journaling/memory keeping. Nice photos and the heart paper is perfect. Thanks for taking the heritage challenge!!
